Lookout. Not one, but two wrong way parkers.

We haven't had a bad parking post in awhile.  There was this one that got the attention of San Mateo city staff and probably earned the driver a demerit.  Some incidents are more blatant than others.  And Lot Y is always good for a shake of the head or two.

A regular reader got a surprise last night when turning south on Capuchino–not one, but two wrong way parkers.  It's contagious.  I'll just guess what happened.  They pulled into the Post Office parking lot, it was full, they went around and saw the open spot to their left–"hey, it's only 30 yards going the wrong way on a one-way street and I gotta get to my dinner reservation."  The second guy sees the maneuver and does same.  It had to be dangerously entertaining leaving the spots.  If BPD wants the plate number, they know where to find me.

    I heard both cars were cited…$40 tickets issued. I suspect the scenario Joe imagined leading to this is precisely what took place, with neither motorist being aware of the street being ONE WAY.
    Now they know.
    On the other hand, given the high cost of parking in many places in San Francisco, they might actually view the $40 price tag as being a relative bargain compared to the $20/$30 per hour cost in an SF garage (or the routinely vandalized, broken window one gets for parking in The City).

    I saw a parking garage near Oracle. Almost full..$140.00 per 6 hours.

    Pro driving tip. If the parking meter is next to your trunk you are pointed the wrong way.
    Pro driving tip number 2. If you are backing up without looking over your right shoulder at what is behind you just stop it.

    Having lived on a one way portion of Paloma Avenue for the past 31 years there is a regular flow of cars driving the wrong way + most of the bicyclist are also driving the wrong way.
    Apparently 99% of bicyclist are unaware that they are to follow the vehicle code. That is one reason why the current proposal to allow bicyclist more ‘special access’ on the blocks north and south of Broadway is such a BAD idea.
    But I am sure that the very vocal minority of bike riders will prevail.

    Agreed. 99% of us cyclists break at least some law of the road. I guess I knew of the one-way rule but never thought about it or broke it as far as I can remember.
    40 bucks seems cheap for the ticket.
