Arson at the Library, War Zone on the Ave.

Just as things were reverting to a highly-modified normal (an oxymoron if ever there was one) we get hit with the triple whammy of an arson event at the main library and a warning from BPD to shop owners to take necessary precautions against vandalism and looting.  Then a two-night county-wide curfew went into effect.  When the Ring Neighborhood alert came in yesterday about a fire in the 400 block of Primrose, I got worried.  Fortunately, as you see below, the fire appears to be just umbrellas in front of the library, not the library itself.  BPD made an arrest of a 45 year old, white male and I'm sure there will be more information to follow.

The scene on the Avenue is really disappointing.  Many shops were just reopening or announced that they will in the coming week.  The precautionary boarding up of windows certainly won't induce people to return soon and the restaurants that have been barely eking by on take-out will have to absorb even more stress.  Anyone who thinks this will somehow cure what ails our society is mistaken.

    The guy arrested for the library is described as “intellectually disabled “ by posts on Nextdoor. The incident appears to have no connection to the protest or the lootings.

    SAN RAFAEL — Two men who crashed a car in San Rafael were arrested after police determined the car was stolen and found what appeared to be methamphetamine pipes inside.
    Lawrence Broussard, 35, of Redwood City was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of vehicle theft, driving while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a valid license.
    Yurii Boris Rafaele Bertolucci, 41, of East Palo Alto, was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
    The crashed occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday on westbound Interstate 580 west of the San Quentin exit. The California Highway Patrol arrived to find a 2001 Dodge Neon with moderate damage in the center divide, said CHP Officer Andrew Barclay.
    Police identified Broussard as the driver and suspected he was intoxicated on drugs, Barclay said. Broussard failed preliminary sobriety tests at the scene.
    Police contacted the owner of the Dodge, who was unaware the car had been taken. The car is registered to an East Palo Alto resident.
    The suspects were being held in lieu of $25,000 bail Tuesday while the Marin County District Attorney’s Office reviewed whether to file charges.
    From East Palo Alto to Burlingame, how does Burlingame attract these people?

    Burlingame War Zone?
    HAHAHAHAHA!
    The Weapon of Choice will either be a Debate about whether or not the Christmas Lights at City Hall should be Blue or Red vs. Super Soakers-Water Guns, at either 10 or 12 steps.
    Nothing is going to happen that will effect the lives of any city of Burlingame, with the exception of a rent strike.
    Oh my Goodness, Danger at every corner.

    You don’t have rent to pay, a couple of employees you are trying to keep paying for not working and a couple thousand dollars for a contractor that you really didn’t have because you lost another 3 days of income. It’s an economic war zone you idiot.

    I’m sorry you have to go through all of this More. There is a tremendous amount of cynical advantage-taking going on and our merchants are paying a severe price for it all. I can handle the virtue signalling but the direct damage to families and businesses has to be stopped.

    Looks like the NextBoor guy planning to have another protest on Burlingame Avenue this weekend got his post taken down. Max somebody who figured it was his turn.
