The Daily Journal is shining a spotlight on two local gems – Burlingamer located on Rollins Rd and it futsal evangelist, Jen Short

Much as San Jose became known for Silicon Valley, Burlingame is becoming the center of the women’s national futsal team.

Last month, Jen Short, general manager of Burlingamer Sports Center and president of Gamer Futsal School, and Roxy Kamal, the director of coaching for Gamer Futsal School and who played for the U.S. in a tournament in Colombia, were named to the coaching staff of the U.S. Women’s National Futsal Team for the upcoming Pacific Cup to be held at the San Jose Event Center July 14-17.

Short has turned Burlingamer into the de facto training center for the women’s national team. Having worked for the last couple of years with U.S. Futsal president Alex Para, who happens to live locally, Short was asked in May to build a team to take to the tournament in San Jose.

I've been to a futsal game over at Burlingamer and it is very fun. It's fast moving due to the short field. You can check out all the activities at their website. Rookie City Councilwoman Donna Colson owns the business and is passionate about local sports for local kids (and adults). If you want to burn off some kid energy as school lets out, this is one option.

Trampoline Parks Are Dangerous

Futsal sounds healthy, trampoline parks on the other hand, no matter how innocent, fun and active they sound – turn out to be quite dangerous to those young and old.

I found out the hard way in March, trying to do an American Ninja type course, swinging on rings and totally pulling my rotator cuff, peck and forearm. And, then I was trying to do a basic trick, and two kids jumped onto my trampoline in mid air. They didn’t get hurt, but it threw off my bounce, and I landed on my neck and severely sprained it. Didn’t even hurt much until that night! 2-3 months of torture. Screwed up my rides with Olympic and Pro yachts.
Backyard trampoline = somewhat risky.
Public trampolines with tons of random people jumping everywhere = very risky.
Once you look into it, you’ll see the many examples of serious trampoline injuries.
Parents of the peninsula beware!

Holy-baby, c’mon, let’s do a little more chillaxin’ and enjoy the summer. A lot of people don’t care, but a lot of people do care. Information about the very fabric of our community is useful to many and Bruce Dickinson is happy to oblige, my jokes at others’ expense, notwithstanding.. I kid, I kid!
Frankly, I personally get a bigger laugh out of some bench racer who thinks his VW/Audi R8 with 500 pounds of dead weight and de-tuned “Lamborghini” (made by VW) engine can be competitive against Ferraris in a race. But as they say, different strokes for different folks, ya know what I mean? If you don’t care, you don’t have to click!
