Softball Advances, Baseball is Done

Yesterday's CCS baseball playoff game against Los Altos is very well described here in the Daily Journal.  The boys put up a great fight, but as the piece notes, offense has been the challenge all year.  Nik Gutierrez' home run got us started, but the bats went pretty quiet after that.  My photo below shows Zac Grotz in the fifth with the no hitter still intact on the scoreboard.

I read that girl's softball had a great win in Monterey over the higher-seeded Monterey High, but cannot find what's next at the Daily Journal's CCS overview here.  Anyone know where the game is on Saturday?

    burlingamepatch.com has a story about the pitcher and the next game location in Redwood city today at 10. Its against Hillsdale.

    Here is some great news about a Panther alum who is shown in the photo of this post from four years ago. You can say you “saw him when…”
    Zac Grotz didn’t know what to expect going into his senior season at Embry-Riddle University.
    The right-handed pitcher — who graduated from Burlingame in 2011 — was taking up with his fourth school in four years. He was coming off a junior season at University of Tennessee during which his mechanics were admittedly a mess. Transitioning to the NAIA program at Embry-Riddle, for his final season of collegiate baseball, he wondered if his stuff would return.
    Well, it did. Not only did Grotz help Embry-Riddle to the Avista-NAIA World Series this season. On June 10, he was selected in the 28th round by the Houston Astros in the MLB First-Year Player Draft. He signed with the Astros last week and reports Friday for his first official day of throwing with Rookie-class Greenville of the Appalachian League.
