There is a great article about the namesake of Towles, Mr. Robert Towles visiting Towles this week.

New owners Meg and Maureen have done a great job of updating the restaurant with their own style but keeping the integrity and charm that we all love about this restaurant. The jazz idea is great, the murals on the exterior walls are beautiful and, all in all, this is a true Burlingame gem. Even a past customer like Bing Crosby would approve!

  1. That was a great article (two actually since the SM County Times did a nice write-up as well). The Daily Journal article noted that in the old days, Towle’s closed every day at 3pm–like all the other businesses in downtown Burlingame.

Does anyone know why? Are we missing our siesta’s that were a B’game tradition??

I’m a lifetime resident of Burlingame. I do not like the transformation of Towles at all. I miss the old-time tuna sandwiches and milk shakes; it was a wonderful tradition to take our children and our grandchildren there for an informal lunch. Additionally, I find the “painting” on the outside walls to be completely not in-keeping with Burlingame style. SOrry!!

  3. I also remember Towles before, growing up. I liked it then and I like it now. I am pleased that they have kept the integrity of the place. I love the seafood dinners and it feels cozy inside. I miss the old-fashioned waitresses, though. The mural, by Burlingame artist Leona Moriarty, gives it a nice homey feeling and I think, makes a nice contrast to all the generic corperate store fronts that line the Avenue now. Has anyone heard the jazz? I haven’t been by while it has been played.

I love the new Towles Cafe. I think it has a great feeling and the two owners are the best. Good live music and Good food! Besides, its never cold inside that place! Keep it up girls!
