Word on the street is that after several stunted attempts by the city to lease the old Sam’s Sandwich space in the old Greyhound Depot, a tenant has secured the lease. It’s a small space but having it sit empty for several years has been depressing. Anything we can do to keep our small-town feel is progress.

Another nail spa? No parking 95% of time

I can appreciate your cynicism, but from what I hear its coffee and a sandwich shop by a woman who has a spot over at one of the hotels on the Bayfront. Hence experienced. One of these days I will count up the nail shops in town……………

  3. They just opened a new 300+ spot parking lot 1 block from that location … 200 ft to be exact at 161 Highland Ave (Lot N) Not many people know about it yet. It’s only $3 to park for 10 hours. Excited to see what will be coming to this location. Burlingame Ave is in need of a good deli.

    Gigi’s sandwiches. Love her

That is so exciting! When they were trying to lease the Depot a few years ago, I wrote to Teresa (Gigi’s owner) and told her to lease it and bring her amazing food closer to downtown. I think she had pretty cheap rent where she was (in an office building on Anza), but I am glad she will now be in a spot where more people can find her. She is often selling cookies at the Sunday farmer’s market. She is a Burlingame local and we need more women-owned businesses! https://www.gigiscafeburlingame.com/

Just to be clear, I didn’t say the lessor was Gigi’s since I never got a name, but the description fits. And remember Gigi’s was nationally recognized on Yelp three years ago:

No one gives a rats ass about Gigis

I believe she actually has connection to the Sam’s owner and even has a Sam’s sandwich on her menu, so comparing the two businesses in a negative way seems odd. Sam’s owner retired years ago. Gigi’s is still here and clearly has strong community support. Unfortunate you won’t be enjoying Gigi’s, but I guess that just means shorter lines for the rest of us😋

One can be a Sam’s Fan without dissing another business, especially one that has such a following. I am 100% sure Rino would approve of the move.
