Another one bit the dust today.  I was awakened by the grinding of the giant shredding machine.  No "High Winds or Downed Trees" on this beautiful Spring Day in B'game.  We are indeed "privileged" by our hard work to live here.  One has to wonder if Caltrans' plan is to kill the Euc grove via "death by a thousand cuts"?  I doubt it since that would imply Caltrans has a plan.  But nonetheless, one of the "Big Boys" was levelled this morning.  If you are crossing ECR from the West Side to go to St. Catherine's (first stop) or walking downtown, the Big Boy who was your sentinel at the corner is gone.

I got an SMC Alert about something in San Bruno, but the closing of both lanes, both directions of El Camino in B'game apparently didn't qualify for an alert.  Nothing to see here.  The deployment of forces–giant crane, grinder, multiple dump trucks, trailers, etc felt just a tiny bit like they were building a section of high-cost rail in the Central Valley and didn't want anyone to notice.  ECR was fully closed for about 5-6 hours.  One down, 390 to go.  Here's the scene and the healthy stump–at least it looks healthy to me.

And another one bites the dust this morning in front of UMC. Has the city put out anything about this? It seems like we get overload information about small things and next to nothing about some big things.

By my count of pink X marked trees between ray drive and Burlingame Ave there are another 20 trees to meet the same fate. Seems like they’re getting a head start on the plans to take them all down, using storm damage as the excuse.

I didn’t see it myself, but I got a report of a car lodged sideways halfway up on a Euc in front of Mollie Stone’s this morning. It’s not the first time an ECR Euc has defended whatever and whoever might be on the sidewalk.

Drivers will get another taste of what will happen if Caltrans gets away with their plan. SMC Alert: On 08/07/23, between 8am to 4:30pm, El Camino in Burlingame will be fully closed between Edgehill Drive to Arc Way/Palm Drive. Plan accordingly.

It looks like Caltrans is going to take out the Eucs a day at a time–death by 1,000 cuts
SMC Alert: Friday, November 3rd between 8am & 6pm, CalTrans will be closing El Camino Real, in all directions in Burlingame, between Broadway and Sherman Ave for tree work. Please avoid this area, plan accordingly and use alternate routes. This is an advisory only and there is no need to contact Burlingame Police in response to this email.
