Yet another national chain has arrived on the Avenew and degraded the visual environment – in the front and back of their store. Here is the Athleta sign on the BACK of the store looking into the parking lot. Really? Maybe they are trying to save the city a little money on parking lot street lights, but it ain't working for me. I really hope someone in Planning measured the total size of the front and back signs and that it is within code. If it is within code, code is too loose.
I haven’t seen the back (neither day, nor night), that does seem kind of “glowing”, but I personally like the front. Wine Stop was a real eyesore, so the bar wasn’t that high, but I think it is nicely done.
They originally tried to put in clerestory windows that would have been very cool, but there was a structural issue that couldn’t easily be resolved- (remember, the two adjacent stores, Athleta and Lulu, were once one large and very beautiful building with a gorgeous facade- up to the late 1950s or so).
Addendum: The building’s beautiful original front facade had already been “denuded” by 1948, while the neighboring Gap structure held on to its nice detailing a decade more.
It’s gym clothes, right? Does the sign need to look like a scoreboard at Levis Stadium?
How many stores selling women’s athleisure does one downtown need?
Lucy store on the Ave. is closing as they merge with The North Face.
Good riddance.
Do not worry..
After Christmas, that place will be gone.
However, there will be the “Chubby Chaser Rush” to join Gyms.
The fact is, “Girl” get that Liposuction.
Clear out that 4lbs. space between your legs too.
