EssEff is all about multiple mountain lion sighting in the city this week.  The Comicle led with the story yesterday including some cool video footage.  I you get the text notices from the County about traffic, weather and the like, you know there are mountain lion sightings down here all the time.  The last one I got was on Oct. 24th.  From the report, it sounds like this young male cougar will be coming back down to our neck of the woods

It was not clear whether the sleek feline was the same animal that created an uproar earlier in the week when one was seen lurking around mansions in the Presidio and Sea Cliff.

Fish and Wildlife officials initially thought Friday that the puma was a female, but Chris Wilmers, a wildlife ecologist at UC Santa Cruz and the head of the Puma Project, said it is “a typical young dispersal-age male who takes a wrong turn.”

“We’re pretty sure it’s from the Peninsula because otherwise it would have had to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge or swim across,” he said, “so we’re going to drop it off on the Peninsula, where it is most likely to have come from.”

I've seen deer in the flatlands of B'game on occasion so it's not inconceivable that a mountain lion would come down from Skyline as well.  Be on the lookout since this latest guy likes to roam and he's on his way back.

The place to be careful is in Mills Canyon around dusk.

  2. I always get “a good feeling” when I read about any Animal that “Claws” it’s way back into it’s “Original Home.”
2 or 3 people Hunted/Consumed by any Burlingame Mountain Lion is a very small price to pay for “turning” a Burlingame 1 bed/1 bath home from a $200,000.00 “SHACK” into a Burlingame $2.75 Million Dollar 1 Bed/ 1 Bath.
Unless, we start to Oversee, and review the Basic decisions our Elders make for Our City,, we are going to suffer the consequences.

  3. Has anyone viewed the Recreation & Park Dept. video on the Burlingame Web Site?
I give it a 5 out of 10 because I saw nothing about the Landscapes and Tree Trimmers. Please show us all “The Good” the Recreation and Park Dept. do for the entire City of Burlingame.
That way, I/We can give the Public Works Dept.Folks a 10 out of 10.
    Thank You Public Works!
Looking forward to the City Hall Tree Lighting.

I have a nice one for you, Holly…
ROLLINS ROAD: According to his May 1963 obituary, William Albert Rollins (who resided at 506 Bayswater Ave.) died at 82. Rollins Road that runs through the heart of the Millsdale Industrial Tract, was named after Rollins, a retired superintendent of the Burlingame Street Dept. who had worked for Burlingame for nearly four decades.
Mr. Rollins, who came to the area at the turn of the century when only four homes were built in Burlingame, started work with a wheelbarrow, and later got a horse and then a Model T. The obituary recounts that “It was said by a fellow co-worker that it was not unusual to see Mr. Rollins bumping along in the Model T, down the original Rollins Road (then a dirt trail along the levee) dressed in his Sunday go-to-the-meetin’ clothes with a supply of sewer pipes for emergency repairs.”
At the time he was the only street department employee. Mr. Rollns was honored by the city fathers and co-workers at a testimonial dinner and presented with a gold watch when he retired in 1944.

There was a mountain lion siting about a block from Osberg Field at BIS last night. It’s not the first and won’t be the last.
