Dear Voice readers and commenters, I have a question. B'game is well-stocked hummingbird territory–most of the time. The Spring was buzzing with buzzing and then we had several months of nothing on the hummingbird front. Now, all of a sudden, in the last week or two they are back with a fury. They're buzzing about, feeding on nectar that has been sitting in feeders for weeks untouched and even fighting with each other for first sips. Does anyone know what is going on in hummingland?

Hmmm, not sure, but from this article –
http://www.hummingbirdcentral.com/hummingbird-migration.htm –
it suggests that there are 3 hummingbird species that migrate along the coast, so maybe the surge is due to that. However, that doesn’t explain why our local, non-migrating species, had low numbers for several months. -
It seems to me that we have two varieties here. The really small ones and the less small ones. They also don’t seem to get along with each other at my feeder.
