Dedicated to Empowering and Informing the Burlingame Community

I should be able to get a first hand report on how the crowd control works tomorrow for Donald Trumps lunchtime speech at the Hyatt.  I know a couple people who were quick on the button and managed to get tickets.  Here is the Daily Journal's piece on the event

And though thousands have expressed interest on social media to rally against Trump during his noon address Friday, April 29, McDougald said he is certain law enforcement is up for the task of maintaining order.

“Crowd control is what it boils down to,” he said. “I have the highest confidence in the police and sheriff and the people that will be handling that.”

Burlingame Mayor Ann Keighran said her paramount concern was for the safety of all those who attended the event.  “All I want is for this to be a safe environment for everyone and that everything goes smoothly,” she said.

Burlingame police Lt. Jay Kiely said local law enforcement agencies are coordinating efforts to allow protesters to exercise their freedom of speech, without breaking any laws.  “Given the great cooperation law enforcement has on the Peninsula, it helps us ensure that the protests go off peaceably, and the convention is able to operate unencumbered,” he said.

Members of the Burlingame Police Department as well as other neighboring cities, county Sheriff’s Office and Office of Emergency Services, California Highway Patrol and the Central County Fire Department are expected to be present at the event, said Kiely, but he is uncertain how many law enforcement officials will be needed.

Should be a great day to have lunch on the Avenue and avoid the Bayfront all together!

Update: 8pm the day of the speech.  As promised, here is a photo from inside the police line by a correspondent who attended.  The structure on the left looks to be the parking garage, so I wonder how so many people got onto the pedestrian walkways to the hotel with this sort of line in place?

Sorry, I just can’t help myself for those who have not seen this hilarious piece.
Have a great time over there, Joe. I don’t think anyone could pay me enough to go…

Colbert Drops to 3rd Place Behind Kimmel as New Poll Shows CBS Host Alienating Audiences
For Stephen Colbert, the late-night honeymoon appears to be over.

  3. I salute the illegal protesters with my middle finger.

    Colbert is a dry-humor intellectual…most people aren’t.
Colbert is a Leftist…tens of millions of Americans (and yes, thousands of Burlingamers) aren’t Leftist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-wing_politics
As for the free-speech protesters, free-transit protesters, individual rights protesters, right-to-assemble protesters, and safety protesters that are planning to try to disrupt The California Republican Convention https://www.cagop.org/convention/ today…
I salute you with my middle finger and an invitation to a one-way ticket out of SFO International Terminal.
I hope that all those that break the rule of law today – get arrested and fined quickly.

  4. Sad Little Man with Funny Ears

Agreed. Will BPD step up and do the right thing? Will they protect the free speech and assembly of convention goers?

  5. old guy

From the looks of the TV news reports there are a lot of unemployed, racist, millenials from out of town who have nothing better to do than come to Burlingame on a workday and trespass on private property.

  6. Steve Kassel

Burlingame PD and all assisting agencies did a tremendous job. You know it had to be a local officer who devised the route to get the vile Mr. Trump in and out without incident. As I watched on CNN, I absolutely loved the way the motorcade get off the new Broadway exit and back onto 101 North only to pull a u-turn and get off on the side of 101 where the new on-ramp construction is ongoing so Drumph could get out of the limo and go through an opening to get to the Hyatt. Absolutely brilliant police work!

  7. Criminal Clinton

Will the vile criminal Clinton come to Burlingame and speak to the people for a cost that the average working person can affort like Trump did? Or will she go up to Pacific Heights for the 85th time to collect $20 Grand for the privilege of shaking her wrinkly hand and being asked for another $20 Grand for her “Foundation”? Well, Kassel? Who is the real vile criminal in this picture?

  8. Laura

I had a friend that went to the dog park and parked at Bayside Fields where many protesters had parked. He said there were several people there passing out papers on how the protesters could collect their pay and who they should call if arrested to get bailed out. Though I’m sure there were a few that were there on their own, the majority were paid agitators.

  9. Stop making politics your religion / spirituality

Paid or not paid, the illegal protestors don’t deserve to be citizens due to their disregard for the rule of law and also their disrespect for other’s constitutional rights.
Getting paid to threaten and assault people and their property is called conspiracy and it’s a felony, which results in serious jail time.
These are normal tactics for those that support Leftist politics.
I would have liked to see way more arrests as the job of the police is to stop criminals and felons.
People need to stop making politics their religion / spirituality and stop worshipping politicians as their God.
Love thy neighbor ethics are much more important than one team of politicians vs the other.

Back to the Burlingame angle for a moment–I was pleased to see the caption to the photos on the front page of the Wall Street Journal this morning accurately listed the location as “Burlingame” instead of “San Francisco” like some other news sources. As they say, any press is good press for tourism purposes. Maybe BALCO is an exception, but this event was good, I believe.

  11. Steve Kassel

“Criminal Clinton”, you’re another FOOL who refuses to use their own name. You are GUTLESS. BTW, I’m a Cruz supporter.

  12. Stop making politics your religion / spirituality

Steve, way to confess that you’re a Cruzer. Burlingamer Jason Scalese is his state campaign chair I believe. Probably the smartest of the candidates, but trying to cop too much of a preachy voice.
Since I planted my Mitt Romney sign on El Camino, I still think he’d be the best president among candidates from recent years. People smashed it multiple times, and I’d catch strangers peering up my staircase windows, not to mention the wild allegations of having a criminal record when I did not, simply because I supported a Republican candidate…I’ve been shocked at how close minded and unkind and illegal and unethical otherwise normal looking Burlingamers can be…simply if you have a different perspective than them.
    Sad and disgusting actually.
You’d think Liberals would be open minded and accepting of diverse perspectives, but no, that wouldn’t follow the backstabbing rules for radicals mantra that they think they secretly employ.
And, I’m actually open minded, tolerant, and pretty moderate overall.
Folks like Mr. McDonald will finally get sued one day, hopefully.
It’s time that the good people of California and beyond make it clear to Mr. McDonald and corrupt people like him that his illegal and unethical behavior is not welcomed anywhere in our country where the freedom of speech and political affiliation are indeed protected by the constitution and by many state and federal laws.

  13. Bruce Dickinson

Listen little fella, namely “Stop making Politics”, “Criminal Clinton” “Sad Little Man”, we all know you’re the same person, so why are you spamming this entire website with comments meandering all over the place with no unifying message. Bruce Dickinson has no idea what point you’re trying to make. Much better to do one post that addresses the issues or what’s on your mind than throwing spaghetti on the wall and see what “sticks” in terms of getting reactions. Seriously, is this how you achieve self-validation???
    Sad.

Thought I’d drop by spend a couple hours to see for myself. I’ve seen other presidential candidates come to town even Hart since 1974. Funny thing is none of these “protesters” were really for anyone. They were pretty much racist, communist, Anarchists. Disgusting display IMHO. I got pushed around and bruised up, ain’t the first time. Funny thing is when police holding the line after egg throwing spitting and verbal diarrhea thrown at em they were crying Police brutality like a spoiled little brat that was breast fed until the age of 16 which is common in the bay area nowadays. Here’s some video of some of the antics I captured, I have more but unfortunately I don’t have much time to upload due to it is May 1st and I just did my bit to pay for these bums food stamps with my 1st qtr.

  15. I looked at two of the videos you posted and this group of protesters were holding signs labeled: http://www.votepsl.org which is the campaign website for the individuals running for president under the Socialist party affiliation.

  16. Steve Kassel

By Bay Area standards, this “protest” which as another poster stated wasn’t really for anything, was VERY MILD. There were the usual anti-capitalism, anti-Israel, U.S. out of U.S. signs, but by and large it was a group of unemployed lunatics who had nothing better to do with their day.

  17. Stop making politics your religion

Fake Bruce, once again, you are just dead wrong.
I will state once again to the readership that I find using the “Posted by:” space as the title for my post to be more useful to the readers than posting some other fake name like “Bruce Dickinson” and as long as we can’t edit or delete our posts like other modern blogs, I won’t regularly use my real name.
I have no idea who the posters “Criminal Clinton” or “Sad Little Man With Funny Ears” is, but it wasn’t ME.
They definitely are not the same poster as “Stop making politics your religion”.
And, while I do agree that Billary Clinton should be sent to prison, I would never make fun of a person due to their physical aspects like “funny ears”.
And, my posts are on topic, and are often way more insightful than yours, Fake Bruce, because, I actually interact with regular people in Burlingame and the greater Bay Area, so I can analyze and write about issues based on my very strong Primary Resources.
Fake Bruce, you could really benefit from some high quality therapy. We’ve all had enough of your obsession with your supposed Ferraris, 1/2 Olympic sized pool, and constant references to some form of “poo”.
Fake Bruce, you have been one of my Limosine Liberal muses over the years along with others like Mr. McDonald. I wouldn’t have become nearly as much of an activist without Mr. McDonald’s breaking the law, and your Ferrari-liberal rants have certainly kept me inspired.

  18. Joe

I’m mostly posting this because the Wall Street Journal got our little town’s name right again!!!
    ______
It’s counterintuitive, but we’re beginning to wonder if all of those protesters showing up at Donald Trump rallies aren’t secret supporters. They couldn’t possibly be doing more to persuade millions of Republicans to vote for him, if only to defend the right to free speech and association.
The protests are picking up in volume and disruption as the candidates campaign in California ahead of the June 7 primary. Protesters blocked traffic, punched vehicles and cursed Trump supporters in Costa Mesa Thursday, and hundreds blocked the entrance to the GOP convention in Burlingame on Friday. About two dozen people tried to rush barriers near the Hyatt Regency, and Mr. Trump and his aides had to get out of their cars and walk into the convention.
“I think it’s going to get worse if he gets the nomination and is the front-runner. I think it’s going to escalate,” Luis Serrano, an organizer with California Immigration Youth Justice Alliance, told the Los Angeles Times. “We’re going to keep showing up and standing against the actions and the hate Donald Trump is creating.”
Even Americans who don’t support Mr. Trump may hear this and wonder who is really creating hate. The spectacles are made-for-ratings cable TV fodder, and Mr. Trump knows it. Every protester who breaks the law or waves a Mexican flag as a political statement in favor of illegal immigration might as well be voting for Mr. Trump.

Now back to true B’game news and views.

  19. Propaganda has weird ways of working…

Propaganda has weird ways of working…
Yes, I’m “Stop making politics…” from above.
I studied it when I worked at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising-NYC, and then at Kellogg.
Donald Trump is a disgusting spoiled brat, and most Moderates to Conservatives that I know would agree.
And yet, I’d rather have anyone but Billary, and I’d take Trump as an only slightly better alternative to Socialist Basement-living Bernie.
It’s a shame that honorable Moderate to Conservative great people like Colin Powell, or Mitt Romney or hundreds of other great people don’t want to run for President.
It speaks to the need to evolve the American political system…not to the failed policies of Socialism with Bernie or Obama, but to a system that does better reflect sound, long-term governance and that attracts the best and brightest folks to help us lead our great nation.

  20. Bruce Dickinson

Guy, first of all, we all know that *the cock of the walk* is real, and he’s fantastic! My commentary and insights are celebrated among the editors and denizens of this website, and the numbers don’t lie: when Bruce Dickinson posts, page hits go off the charts! So I know the difference between true fandom and an audience of one in an echo chamber.
Seriously, everyone can see that you’re the same poster of all the political comments. Same weird username style, same topic (clintons, democrats, jerry brown & co etc), same content of posts that you comment on. There are only so many regulars on this website, yet only one source of the weird diarrhea diatribes that repeatedly get admonished by the site administrators. Finally you make it such a point by calling *the* Bruce Dickinson fake, that alone is a huge subconscious admission that you are transferring your untruths to me and that I hit a nerve dead-on! You don’t get the to the highest level of Bruce Dickinson type success by accident, my friend, I can cut through psychology and chicanery like a steak knife through butter! I will assume that I’m correct in my assessment, unless Joe and Russ actually show me the user handles came from different IP addresses! I may be seven decades old, but know the tricks of the trade!
As far as serving as your inspiration, well guys, as I’ve stated before, when I’m done with you here, y’all be wearing gold-plated diapers! Except in this case, maybe the diapers will be gold-painted instead of solid 24ct, ya know what I mean?!
There’s a difference between veneer and the real deal…..and it shows!

  21. The rule of law is beautiful

I am “I salute…”, “Stop making politics”, “Propaganda has…”, but no one else on this thread. As previously stated over the years, I usually use the “Name” space as my post title.

The law is relatively predictable…and when legal and peaceful protesters cross the line and break the law, assault and batter, damage personal property, trespass – then they should get arrested and charged.
And, if we can finally get proof that some person or group(s) are paying protesters to specifically break the law, then those paying off the protesters should be just as prosecuted.
I commend the Burlingame and neighboring partner police forces for doing their job.
That’s the beautiful thing about our country is that the rule of law is at least Supposed to protect the dignity of each individual. And, yes, citizens have unique privileges vs. people that committed misdemeanors and felonies in illegally entering our country and our communities. If you don’t like the law, then change it, but you can’t ignore it, or you yourself should be prosecuted.
