In a crowd-sourced world people can rate just about anything.  Los Altos has gone out in front by having residents rate which buildings they like and dislike.  The Daily Post covers the professional survey that offered residents the chance to rate seven new buildings in town.

Skipping the local Los Altos detail, the piece notes that satisfaction with their downtown is up 14% from three years ago.  I would bet we would find the same after the Avenew renewal.  But parking convenience is way down.  Again, probably the same in B'game.  And 51% said more office space downtown would be a bad thing vs. 39% in favor.  Again, probably the same but unless the city council decides to do some thing similar we won't know for sure.

Why do we need the Post to manage this for us? I’ll start. Favorite new or remodeled building in the Burlingame-Howard Avenue area: Kate Spade: 1207 Burlingame Ave. Remember the mauve and white tiled Round Table Pizza?? This is an amazing effort at matching the original tile front on one of the oldest structures in Burlingame. Least favorite: Apple Store 1301 –IMO this one looks very dated already–(ephemeral Steve Jobs architecture)

The old Comcast building came out better than I expected and when you see the glassy San Jose architecture proposed for Highland it looks positively fitting.

Joe, listen, it sounds like you are in the solutions business without even knowing it. Why not have a special section of the Voice, to wit “Am I hot, or am I not”, architecturally speaking that is. And then leave room for those to opine. I will be happy to lend my artistic eyes and reputation as a tastemaker as it were, to critique any design and believe me, I’ll call ’em as I see ’em, no “poodle-ing” around, ya know what I mean? Also the Voice seems to have a lot of people with equivalent, or dare I say, better skill in these matters. So bring it on! Throw this Rottweiler a bone to sink my teeth into. Woof!
