Maybe you get the Gentry magazine in your driveway the way I do and maybe you even read it.  If you read the current edition that landed this week you saw that two of our local real estate pros are at the top of the WSJ national lists.  Stanley Lo heads up the Bay Area list with $300M+ of transactions in 2013 and he came in eight in the whole darn country.  Stanley is quoted saying

"Entrepreneurs and professional people account for 60% -70% of my clients.  The other 30% – 40% were from mainland China.

Landing at No. 9 on the Top Teams list is Tom Neel and Associates with $88M of transactions last year.  They did this by

selling everything from grand Mediterranean-style mansions to historic arts and crafts-style bungalows.

Glad to see someone in the biz thinks our Arts & Crafts bungalows are historic–even if it is an uphill battle at City Hall to get them to acknowledge it and treat them as special.

Congrats to both of the B'game pros.  You have to wonder what they think about "rack 'em and stack 'em" high density, faux affordable housing and other forms of dumb growth encroaching on the Golden Egg?

The rumor is the Gold Medal Martial Arts may be forced to vacate the Howard Ave Bldg. They never seem to have much activity in there other than the little kids programs which isn’t profitable business in that industry. The owner according to some insiders are looking for cheaper space.

    Well Joe,
I think it is nice for Stanley Lo and Tom Neely but that being said, in my opinion, Real Estate Agents in this area make too much money on commissions in this hyper-inflated market. In Burllingame, Houses are selling within days.
The next area ripe for disruptive technology is real estate. We can now do travel. Car, merchandise, employment, etc, etc. on-line. Next frontier is home buying/selling
Know this controversial,. Just want to keep more of my money in my pocket. There will always be a need for agents. Just looking for a better way to do it myself.

BTW don’t get Gentry magazine. Guess we are not in the demographics but that is ok with me.
It is filled with glamour shot ads for real estate agents + lots of ads for plastic surgeons. Glad they opted me out.
    Ouch!

Actually Helio Markata dug up a post from more than a year ago to add his/her comment, but I did happen to see this year’s version lately and Stanley Lo was still no. 1 in the Bay Area at $340+ MM and Jim Arbeed was second as I recall. I can’t lay my hands on the magazine at the moment.
It is certainly a boom and bust business, but I basically agree with your Sami.
