Dedicated to Empowering and Informing the Burlingame Community

You will have to click through to the Daily Journal bit about the new Broadway Tennis Center to see the cute picture, but here is the text

From left to right, Frank York, President, W. L. Butler Construction, Burlingame Councilman Jerry Deal, Broadway Tennis Center’s Anne and Horacio Matta, Burlingame Mayor Michael Brownrigg and Burlingame Councilman Ricardo Ortiz break ground at 60 Edwards Court in Burlingame, the new Broadway Tennis Center. The center is the first community-based tennis facility to be built in the San Francisco Bay Area in 20 plus years.

It's tucked right between Mills Creek and Easton Creek off Rollins here.

  1. Well, we’ve lost a badminton center, and gained a tennis center. Not sure how I feel about this. Tennis was immensely popular 30 years ago, but its not much in vogue these days with people under 30. Badminton seems to be the hot thing around these parts. My kids love badminton and we were regulars at Bay Badminton before they got kicked out of their space. I can’t get my kids interested in tennis at all, though i’ve tried. They were much more into badminton. Weird. I see lots of empty tennis courts around here these days, and the weather in this area isn’t that bad – it’s not blistering hot you know, maybe there’s not as much motivation to play inside as there would be in the southwest Let’s hope their business model holds up.

Lets forget about Tennis Courts and replace them with Urban Farms.

From the DJ we get this update:
Only three weeks away from the grand opening, the finishing touches are being put on the Broadway Tennis Center, and tennis lovers are rallying enthusiasm for the sport.
Local officials attended a hard hat walking tour of the 62,715-square-foot facility Tuesday, March 10, in advance of its opening service to the community April 1.
No court has been laid down in the large warehouse space, near Highway 101 on Edwards Court in Burlingame, but workers hope the center will soon be filled with the sound of screeching sneakers and smashing serves, spanning from the early morning until late at night.

We met the General Manager of the new tennis center at the Burlingame Rotary Club last week.
He seems like a great guy (from Milpitas originally).
I’d encourage you to consider joining The Burlingame Rotary Club (or The Lions Club, or a parents club), these provide the true voice and connection of our community.
While we all love the Burlingame Voice, don’t forget this is a virtual vitamin supplement and not the actual community.
