I have been lucky to have been involved in much positive change in Burlingame, including helping to create this blog. So it is appropriate for me to announce here that I will not seek a recount in the election that resulted in Mr. Ortiz gaining a seat on the Burlingame City Council by 8 votes. I congratulate him and wish him only the best. I also encourage him to blog here as well. Sincerest best of luck Ricardo.
Congratulations to Ann, Michael, Ricardo, Russ and the rest of the candidates in this cycle’s City Council election! The election provided an excellent forum for the entire community to consider and debate various questions and concerns as well as to celebrate Burlingame’s successes!
Russ, I enjoyed getting to know you during the election process. You definitely ‘walk the walk’. I hope that you’ll consider running in 2015!

Wow, all I can say is what a class act Russ Cohen is. Not only for bowing out and not seeking a recount but also for allowing other candidates and their supporters unfettered pontification on the Voice without censorship. Did it cost him 8 votes? who knows? but just goes to show you he is in a completely different league in comparison to peers and is the standard bearer for what public service really means in Burlingame. Think his peers, particularly a certain sitting city council member up for re-election in 2015 really need to do some self-introspection about what it means to serve the public and how to conduct oneself. Those people need to use this as a learning experience and answer the question about what it means to be both honorable and ethical. Sadly, the damage may already be irreparable and as the sayings go, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, or a too young a puppy any tricks, or something like that.
Congrats to Mr. Ortiz, I think he’ll do a great job and would work really well with Mr. Cohen in a couple of years!–hint hint Mr. Cohen.
Russ, Thanks for making it a gracious end of a tight election. I’ll bet you have a lot of support when the next council seat opens up.
