The Daily Journal is also covering a small, but curious Council agenda item that is indicative of how old our town is and how things blur over time:

the council will consider a request to de-annex 1125 Jackling Drive to the town of Hillsborough. The property has a Hillsborough street address and access but the land is actually in Burlingame, which the owner, Maurissa Hefferan, has noted causes problems when there are calls for emergency services. Hefferan is requesting the land become part of Hillsborough to avoid future confusion. Such a change will result in a decrease of property tax and storm drainage revenue to Burlingame of about $3,000 annually. Both cities must sign off on such a change. A June 2 letter from City Attorney Gus Guinan to Hefferan’s lawyer expresses that staff does not recommend the change due to the financial loss.

You have to wonder how it happened way back when?

    I think a Hillsborough address will be a windfall for the homeowner.
    If you saw the home, and its location; it would be obvious this property belongs in Hillsborough.
    How do you like that response Anne?

    I don’t think it goes “way back”, the house was only built in 2005. Perhaps it was subdivided from a Burlingame lot and built on, in which case the people involved knew that they were building a Burlingame house with a Hillsborough street address.

    City Attorney Gus Guinan said the unusual border was the result of a subdivision built in 1954. Heffran’s home is on the Burlingame side of Easton Creek, even though the entrance to the home is on the other side of the creek in Hillsborough.
    The two-level home, which features a short bridge over the creek between the street and the driveway, is assessed at $1.7 million, but officials say it could sell for more than $2 million. A couple from Maryland who is renting the home said they’ve had problems with deliveries there.
    Although it isn’t mentioned in any of Heffran’s formal requests, the switch to an address in Hillsborough — one of the wealthiest communities in the state — could boost the property’s value.
    “It has nothing to do with any sale, but, just for the record, the Burlingame market is a better market all day long,” Heffran said.
