Kudos to three local groups concerned about High Cost Rail:  the CBB, CC-HSR and Don't Railroad Us for continuing the educational process by designing a nice, concise flyer that is available in a few lawn boxes around town.  It's short, clear and gets to the points that someone who won't read Parts 1-23 here needs to know.

The lawnboxes look like this

I was glad to see the lawnbox in front of Bob’s gas on Howard. That’s how I first heard about HSR in B-game. I’ve also seen them glued or taped inside the train shelters at the train station. Way to go whoever is doing that!

“That’s how I first heard about HSR in B-game.”
    That is fascinating. Please explain.

Where do you get these lawn boxes??

  4. JF

My blunder; actually I learned about HSR from the bulletin board in front of Bob’s gas station. I think the lawnboxes are better at keeping the fliers dry. Anyone hear of HSR’s latest opinion poll in which CA overwhelmingly approve of HSR? See SJ Mercury News (July 29)

Pollsters hired by the California High-Speed Rail Authority asked 806 registered voters in May whether the state should continue with the largest project in its history, a $43 billion bullet train line approved during the November 2008 election.
One-third said it should be built as quickly as possible, 13 percent said they don’t want it built at all, and 11 percent were unsure.
The most, 42 percent, said they supported the concept of building the high-speed railroad “but have some concerns about the timing and costs of the project,” the pollsters said.

According to the (7/28) SMC Times, Olgivy (the PR firm running the survey) noted 11 positive aspects of HSR and no negatives.

Why don’t we play “Survey!”- I’ll start.
Would you prefer buying a new Mercedes Benz, with free service for life, for $25,000 or a Volkswagen, with 10 years of free service, for $20,000?

  8. Fred

Many people do not want to buy a bug, a mosquito or a benz but they believe in high speed rail – as the survey states.

  9. fred, the original Joe

Dude, seriously, that’s my moniker. Can you find a different one or I’m going to have to change mine to Joe.
ps: The survey has a sample size of 800 people. What percentage is that of the state population and how does that effect the margin of error? Answer: miniscule and to the point of irrelavancy.

Fred (the one and only), I think that dude is a dame.

Ohhh, hi Jim! Long time no talk!
