Any news to report this year so far? The kids have been back for almost a month, with a new principal. Any issues for anyone? Hope it’s a great year so far–see you at Back to School Night, Sep. 20th.

  4. Hi

Just wondering, what’s the first name of the new science teacher that is taking over 11-3? Ms. Hunt is here name I believe, but the first? Also, will Mrs. House be coming back?
    Thanks

It’s Tamara Hunt, and she has a credential so she may very well stay on the entire year. Angela is not doing well–trying another round of cancer treatment, so she may not return at all. Warm thoughts go out to her! She may not return for another year, sadly. The kids all seemed scared of her current sub Mrs. Parrish, so perhaps a new sub might work out well.

  6. Hi

I was very afraid of Mrs.Parrish, along with everyone else. I didn’t learn a thing the few weeks I was with her. it’s sad..

Reading this saddens me. Like several other posters, my family has lived in Burlingame/Hillsborough for 4 generations. I attended BIS for 7th & 8th in 77 (McKinley still taught 6th), and considered it for my kids. In the end I sent them to St. Matthews.

My experience at BIS was great. I learned, enjoyed the wood shop, and developed my love for the culinary arts in my home economics class.

BHS was the problem for me. Complete incompetence.

This is OT, but I wanted to say it. I love the parental enthusiasm for my alma mater.

    cheers

wow guys, bis is really not that bad the band teacher was great, and i learnes a ton, but the math teacher sucked. guys i have a message for all you ppl; you try it, you just try teaching a class. its not easy.

now stop freaking out and enjoy life while its there

    seriously.

Why is it that good or bad teachers are alluded to, but no specific details are given? When there are concerns, it’s important to voice them, especially with teachers who are simply not doing their jobs. One student may observe wrongdoing on a teacher’s part, not knowing that numerous other students have also seen the same thing and have been adversely affected by it (such as a teacher telling a student he/she is “stupid”). If programs at BIS are working well and we as parents are happy with the changes then we should be lauding the faculty and staff. If things are not working well for the students, such as the change from morning homeroom to afternoon homeroom, then this forum provides a great way to express any concerns. I personally do not like the homeroom change–it seems not as effective or useful!

i think the teachers at our school are really good, but the BCE is spending to much money on things like “smart boards” high tech stuff costing over a thousand dollars per classroom,so the school should stop complaining bout budget stuff because they are wasting they’re $ and also, im happy this teacher at our school got fired lat year because he harassed girls and had a temper.

Would anyone like to comment on the following two questions:

    1. Is BIS looking at getting rid of homework? It seems that many parents (and maybe the district) believe that homework takes up too much time and should be eliminated.

    2. Is BIS going to eliminate grades and switch to a numerical format (1-5) like the San Mateo Foster City District. The number grades are linked to state benchmarks or student skill. This means that a student’s grade (and education) is limited to a state minimum of a 5. So much for educating the “whole” child.
