Well, there goes the diet. Nick and I have eaten 4 times at Joanies and each time has been better than the time before. Burlingame has hit a home run with this restaurant. The food is so fresh and delicious. The first morning I had the blueberry pancakes WITH strawberries on top. Unbelievable Followed the very next day by the homemade Belgians waffles. Really, how many Weight Watcher points is that? I don't care. It was worth it. I have not had lunch or dinner there yet. The owner, Tommy, is a great guy. They are opened early in the morning and stay open till at least 9 or 10 at night. A great place for the teenagers to grab a burger. I would highly recommend Joanies. Post and let me know what you think.

Where is Joanie’s?? Also, does anyone know what has become of Cafe Verdi on Howard. The last several times I’ve visited, they’ve been closed…..

Joanies is on Broadway – right hand side closer to California Drive. Right next door to the soon to be Chocolate Mousse Bakery. Both of these new shops were very enthusiastic at the Pet Parade, giving away loads of free samples and greeting all their new neighbors and customers. The owners were right out in front clearly very happy to be in Burlingame.

Just got back, had a turkey burger and a salad…very good. I was greeted by a very friendly person. Nice addition to the neighborhood for beakfast and lunch.

how much dose like a burger cost?

  7. jean

$5.50 for a basic cheese burger, and another $2 bucks for delux.

Katie, try it out and let us know if this is a good student place, affordable, and yummy.

Just to keep you up to date, we went back again. Nick had the Chicken stir fry. It was fantastic. It was under $8.00. A huge portion of stips of moist chicken, white rice and brocolli, carrots and cabbage. It was so fresh. Chili is also delicious. Haven’t had a bad meal yet. Brought the kids ( 8 of them ages 13 – 20 ) and they loved it too. Great place for them.

When i saw this thread, i got more excited than i’ve ever been. well…anyways, my friend (student y) and i have always loved the idea of a diner and always wanted one it burlingame. when joanies open, we were thrilled. we’ve been twice. love the french fries. my only complaint is that the happy days/ 50’s diner feel is not complete. NO MUSIC??? come on. the walls, much too bare. but aside from that, foods good, prices are great. i’m pumped.

Whenever I try a new restaurant, I order the burger and fries if available. To me, this is the benchmark all restaurants should be judged upon. I did just that a few nights ago. In my opinion, the burger was very good. Meaty and firm. Some burger joints try to serve up the “fancy” burger. This burger doesn’t pretend to be something other than it is. A plain, no nonsense burger. It met my expectations and may have just nudged into the beat my expectations column. The fries however definitely beat my expectations. They weren’t your run of the mill fries. These were thick, steak fries. They were as meaty in the potato departemnt as the patty was in the burger deppartment. I can’t comment on the service as I got my order to go–at 9pm! That’s another gold star in their favor–they’re open late. I am not a big fan of the psuedo 1950’s diner decor, but I have to agree with the previous blogger–a little more in the way of object de art would go along way.

My family visited me from Illinois and stopped in for a quick bite at Joanie’s. Sadly, there was nothing quick about it. They ordered soup and were not served at the same time because they were told each bowl had to be “made” separately. Their food was not hot because of the wait. The menu looked great however the service was extremely slow. It took 45 minutes for them to get their bowl of soup. Since it’s new, there is great hope based upon the above comments however Joanie’s is really not ready yet for the big time.

I am not exactly sure what you are talking about since I was just there yesterday (1:30) as well and ordered the Navy bean soup. I was served immediately from a POT of soup. It was delicious. Their soups are made each morning and are never made bowl by bowl. I have eaten there many, many times and have always been served in a quick friendly manner. Sure they have a few kinks to straighten out. They are a new restaurant. But service is certainly not one of them. They greet you at the door with a smile and make you feel right at home. Their food is fresh and delicious. They have some of the best breakfast on the peninsula. I can only imagine that you confused this with another restaurant.
