Also from the latest parks & recs commission minutes, this question by Commissioner Schreuers was only partially answered by Parks & Recs Director Schwarts.

Commissioner Schreuers noticed that several trees in Washington Park have been lost and was curious if there were any plans to replace them. Schwartz mentioned that yes; there are plans to replace them, however, in a different area of the park.

The follow-on question is 'Why aren't the trees being replaced in the same area?

It must be going on ten years now that this project has been “supposed to done”.
I bet dollars to donuts this does not happen.
As well as the replacment of the trees that were removed at “The Depot”.
    I hope they do.
However R.Schartz/TR only tell us what they think we want to hear. Then, hope it/we go away.
This Blog has been very helpful to reach these nudnicks. They all read it. Especially when contract negotiaions and elections are eminent. Which by the way are in progress now. The Blue Collar workers are pushing for an enhanced retirement benefit that is going to cost us MILLIONS!
They already have a very good benefit-2%@55.
Plus lifetime medical benefits for them selves, plus one.
The City Council members are also able to recieve this benefit.
What ever happened to the trees that were removed at Mills Canyon?
I just see stumps. What is the plan?

From the Parks February 16, 2006 minutes re Mills Canyon replacements:

… FOMC would like to plant native oak trees on the Arguello entrance on Arbor Day to replace the eucalyptus that recently came down in a storm.

… suggests that instead of planting new trees at Arguello on Arbor Day to leave the area natural and wait and see what happens as teenagers used to hide behind the old trees to smoke.

… He agrees with removing the old eucalyptus trees, however, he does not think they should be replaced with new trees.

… Chairman Heathcote suggested staff relocate the Arbor Day ceremony after learning the concerns of the Canyon’s neighbors.

From the Beautification Commission Minutes of May 4 meeting:

11 Accolade Elms were ordered, three as replacements for Locusts that were removed at the Depot. The Accolades could not be shipped because of a fungus discovered on them. We now anticipate a fall delivery

I would like a list on the city website of which city trees will be destroyed, why and when replacements will be planted. It seems this request has proved too difficult a task for Burlingame.
