Dedicated to Empowering and Informing the Burlingame Community

It will be the last Music in Washington Park tomorrow (Sunday) with the California Cowboys, Hot country 4 piece band. Bring your s…-kicking boots, a bottle of plonk and a picnic. See ya there!

If you get there at 12:30 you will see a soupcon of "Into the Woods" by some very talented kids.

Burlingame needs to get some informed help on their music selections for Music in the Park. The San Mateo series on Thursday evenings make our little series look sad. We get the same old, tired performers every year. Time for some fresh blood.

I happpen to like the California Cowboys. I also like the fact that our Music in the Park is a small, local crowd. San Mateo’s Music in the Park is so crowded, there are times where I couldn’t see the performers at all because of the crowded conditions. Although some of the performers are lack luster, I still find Burlingame’s affair more relaxing and enjoyable.

The California Cowboys were fun. It is true that the San Mateo Music in the Park is more energetic but I am grateful that we have Music in the Park at all!

Thank you to the Burlingame Rotary Club for sponsoring the Free Family Movies in Washington Park. Last night it was wonderful to see families riding their bikes to see a movie in Burlingame. A fantastic concept!

The next Movie under the Stars is E.T. (August 12) and Cheaper by the Dozen (September 9th). Let’s widen the idea of more kinds of movies?

It would be nice to show more arti films, foreign or even documentaries, in the main hall of the rec. center, (and it needn’t be summer.) Better yet, why not use the babysitters that are trained by the rec. center, to watch people’s kids in another room, for the time that the parents are watching the films, so that people have babysitters and the teens get practice.

Good idea Jen. Has anyone seen Word Play? That would be a fun movie to begin with.

Yesterday at Music in the Park I spoke to Tim (Parks and Rec) about getting more movies. He will be putting together a survey of whether residents would like a series of different kinds of movies. I would love a “Classics Movie Night”, a “Drama Movie Night”, a “Comedy Movie Night”, etc. There are movies in the afternoon for seniors but I am not sure how often and if they are well attended.

Talking about entertainment, what happened to the list of Burlingame venues that have stages etc? At least the Rec Center stage can hold a movie screen which is about all it is good for!

That’s true, where is that list?

Never mind San Mateo. Check out Los Gatos. They had Mose Allison last week and Houston Pearsons this week (right before he went back to his gig in NYC clubs). Rita Coolidge next week. The Calif. Cowgirls wouldn’t even qualify as a warm-up band for these folks.
