   Trucks and bulldozers arrived this morning! Dirt is being moved and one can hope that concrete is not far behind. I saw a couple of 3 year olds looking through the fence longingly this morning.

   Joe or anyone,

   Do you know what the estimated completion date is now? I’m no expert, but from what I recall of the Washington Park project last year, I would guess there’s at least another 3-4 weeks worth of work: building play structure foundations, pouring concrete, delivering and building the play structure, pouring the rubber surface…

   Those signs on the fence which say “late May or early June” are going to be looking pretty stale by July 4th. Somebody out there must be planning the remaining work, arranging a delivery date for the play structure (I think there was a delay on Washington waiting for this to arrive), etc. Maybe they could post some updated signage?

   Here is the Park & Rec Dept’s current schedule. The signs will be changed to reflect this schedule.

   The contractor is scheduling his concrete pour to begin next Monday, June 20. This will include the sidewalks and curb/wall pieces, as well as bench and drinking fountain installations. The play equipment vendor will begin his work on 6/21. That work is projected for six days. The equipment installation will be followed by the rough concrete (the base for the resilient surface) on June 30. That will cure, and the resilient surfacing will be installed over it beginning July 5. The contractor hopes to complete that work by July 9.

   So I think people with little ones need to plan their Fourth of July outing for somewhere else.

   Ian,
   I wish it were so, but I just got back from having a pass with my boys and the same schedule (equipment by June 20th and new surface by the Fourth of July) is still posted, but no further work has happened. We still need the new concrete surface before any equipment can be installed. The worst part is the drinking fountain was deinstalled. It’s time for a schedule update.

   Yeah – I noticed they were way off track, but I kind of gave up asking. They actually did complete the first step of the revised schedule (pouring the curb/wall pieces and sidewalks), but it stalled as soon as that was done.

   Hopefully this is not representative of the general level of project management competance with the City of Burlingame.

   Hurray! Hurray! Pershing Park opened today!

   The fencing is piled on the side and kids are making mud in the new mud-making toy in the sandy part of the play area. The new spongy turf is a little weird but that’s what the Feds and Sacramento want, so that’s what we get. I climbed up on the new rope ladder/pole and enjoyed the setting sun and the sounds of a local grandmother playing with her granddaughter. Let fun begin this fine Labor Day weekend.
