The first glossy campaign literature has hit our mailboxes – something about Safeway, parking and auto row. Yuck!

I thought that whole thing fell through, but maybe your info is newer than mine. I like Anthropology, by the way.

  2. An economic study of the North Rollins road area on how it can be beneficial to auto related businesses should give you all the answers you need. That combined with the leverage you have with your current successful businesses and lobbying your council members for tax incentives should go along way. I might remind Fred and Bruce that this is not something I dreamt up. The North Rollins Road specific area plan was drafted with the vision that auto dealers would be pleased with the zoning to allow them there. The Burlingame Planning Commission and The Burlingame City Council approved the plan. Ain’t just my idea folks!

So basically you want the auto dealers to open up new dealerships on the North Rollins road area. They should pay for everything and ask the council for tax incentives?

Well I have to pay for everything when I move home and I don’t get any tax incentives! I also try to work with my neighbors so that my patch of Burlingame is as best as it can be for residents and guests.

I know – Fred – I am not one of the golden goooooses, but we can contribute in many other ways than with those golden eggs!

Quote from Jenn – ‘The Putman building is pretty ugly. I don’t mean to offend anyone, but there isn’t much redeeming there. Particularly those Hummers tearing down the steps look menacing. However, some hanging flowers or greenery, awnings, something to pull the area together is, I think, something to strive for’

Jenn, it might be the fact that you don’t like Hummers but there are many trees and bushes even a vine growing up a wall at the Hummer dealership.

Fred, I love your building on the corner. It is a great asset to Burlingame with its tiled roof and one of the nicest car showrooms around!

Also, remember…Camissa and the gas station/carwash on Carolans, as well as the Audi place on Rollins…they do a very nice job of selling/washing/gassing cars, and incorporating landscaping/beauty.

Thanks for pointing that out, Fred. There is a bit here and there,
‘ just noticed it. But I guess it still is quite underwhelming and goes under since the Hummers are kind of overwhelming. I also noticed tinsel on Volvo, today. I like flags, better….

It seems Gene Condon decided to throw a bunch of stuff against the wall to see if any of it would stick. The brochure hits on a dozen topics without really saying much about any of them except that “Too many projects…have been stalled at City Hall”. So the growth lion is out of his sheep’s clothing already. I can’t wait to hear what he means by “a new Safeway that maximizes the potential of the site and conforms to the historic design criteria”. I guess I missed those criteria when they were passed. And how is Auto Row a “community landmark”? This should be interesting.

We now know he’s a Harrison-Janney puppet, but what about all the auto-row stuff? What does he think–or does he think? Sean, Fred, Bruce, whoever–is Gene your guy? And if so, why?

  10. It’s not my building Fiona. But got me laughing!

Frank, thanks for bringing it back to Gene Condon. Yes, he seems to be a Harrison/Janney/Galligan/Coff Coff puppet. Personally, I don’t even think he wrote that stuff about Safeway. Remember, he hired a campaign manager and she probably wrote it. I never saw Gene Condon at any planning commision or city council meetings for Safeway. He does not have any experience other than tooting his horn that he is on some traffic commission. He does not seem to have the thoughtful depth of thinking required for complicated subjects. Just my opinion. everyone says he is a nice guy but you need more than good old boyness to sit up there (i know what you’re thinking everyone..how did Coff Coff get up there)

Fiona, I’m glad you like the ‘bunker’ I built on Chapin. Aside from the blank wall on the East side, I think it looks great! (the wood siding on the West side could use some attention though…) …but I did not design it, I just built it!
