   I was disappointed at the Meet the Mayor event. It looked like this was Burlingame’s biggest non-event of the year. There were so few people in attendance I thought I was in the wrong meeting. Looking around the room it seemed like there were more department heads than there were people in attendance. I did not hear anything that convinced me Mayor Galligan was a good leader and worthy of my vote in November.

   Perhaps some of the citizens of Burlingame have met the Mayor on previous occasions and those instances may have been enough. He can be a rather disagreeable fellow from time to time. I know I’ve seen him with his “horns” exposed (unless it was my cable reception which was faulty). Too bad people stayed away in droves.

   “da mayor’s” reputation preceeds him. Beau, your observations are correct, it is not a function of a faulty cable provider. On tape and in print, “da mayor’s” attitude of “it is all me and everyone else is misinformed or out and out wrong” comes through loud and clear.

   The lack of “da mayor’s” supporters at the meeting, also, speaks volumns about the lack of public interest and respect.

   An agenda might help as well as some idea of the format being publicized. Barring that free food and drink will always bring them in 🙂

   If they offered free food, the mayor would probably have his wife picking up Quiche at Safeway in Burlingame and he might bring leftovers from his sister’s holiday festivities out in Foster City. ((This is only humorous to those who’ve been reading this blog for a while and who recall Mr. Mayor’s rambling speech as to why he was in favor of cutting off Burlingame’s right arm to allow Safeway to contruct any sort of building they wanted.))

   Further, perhaps all of those who “rent” in Burlingame were busy shopping at Safeway during the Meet-The-Mayor event. I understand there was an especially long line at the Nine-Items-Or-Less aisle.

   Friends of mine were unwilling to attend, preferring to participate in a CBB meeting (Citizens for Beer in Burlingame) at the Steelhead Brewery. There was a screening of a particularly good episode of Hollywood Squares on the Game Show Network on their cable system.

   Other friends were engaged in an auto rally along El Camino…Some sort of competition to count the number of religious institutions along that lovely boulevard (American Bull is not one of them!)
