Outstanding!!! This is the stuff that makes Broadway Ave the “neighborhood” place to visit and spend your $$$$$$$$$$$$.

Dave has always been a supporter of the community, just as any of those people gathered at il piccolo discussing everything from soup to nuts. Many a business deal has been closed over a cup of coffee at il piccolo.

Isn’t it interesting that the small independent businesses like Prestons and Il Piccolo are doing what they can to help. Perhaps the Gap, and Pottery Barn and J. Crew and Starbucks are calling their headquarters to get permission to join in?

Thank you Il Piccolo – once again you have proven why we enjoy a latte at your fine establishment and would never venture across the road!

I agree, where is any kind of connection of those stores to the communities in which they duplicate themselves? When the independants leave, it is is a loss that isn’t easily found on paper, but certainly felt by the community. Thank you to Dave for being there.

If I heard correctly from one of the BID members, their efforts raised $1500 for the American Red Cross.

That is great! Anne, do you have any more informationon how this was brought about?

I was hoping that there would be something in the local newspapers – maybe there was?

Congratulations to Broadway for your generosity – whether it was $1500 or $15,000, and once again reiterates why we we love to shop local!

Sorry Rich, but I don’t know the details. I suspect Ross Bruce of AVR can give details. I know I’ve seen flyers posted in some Broadway stores. I think I first noticed them at Broadway Market and Earthbeam? I’m guessing more stores were involved either locally or from their parent (Yes, StarBucks parent corp has made relief contributions on their own.)

If I can combine questions, I did get an email from a reader who wanted to know why the cafe has a seperate campaign. I think Dave’s effort was seperate for 2 reasons:

    (1) BID had a cut off date of last week and Dave already had a commitment for this Sunday.

    (2) He wanted a childrens’ charity that had the infrastructure already in place in the affected areas. There were other factors like percentage of funds to program services and independant evaluation. The final choice was Save the Children. I know this part as I did the research for him.

I would’ve called him but I think it’s a tad late for someone who gets up at 4am 😉

Spoke to Dave and the amount raised was $1,233.

This was a combination of percentage of sales (25%), donated employee wages and tip jar contributions.

Dave would like to thank his patrons, employees, Party Productions and the guitar players. He also wanted to thank Debbie and Mike for the great idea and offering to work.

And a huge Thank you to Dave and staff for putting on this event.

This is exactly why I do not get my coffee anywhere else in Burlingame. Over the last 14 years Dave and his staff have always treated me and all of the other patrons as family. It is a truely pleasure to do business with Dave. He is never too busy to say “hi.”

Il Piccolo is, truely, a neighborhood business and I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all of those, who stop by and contrubuted to a worthy cause. $1233.00 speaks volumns about those, who frequent Il Piccolo.
