   Well folk, it is official, as a resident of Burlingame, I have served the city with my official request pursuant to the California Public Records Act requesting certain documents relating to Safeway. My request should contain ALL of those emails Galligan referred to, but was unwilling to make available for public review. When Galligan brought up those “invisible” emails, he was asked how many were there and his answer was anything but specific. He just did not want to provide the specific number, I wonder why. It will be most interesting to see just how many of those emails are from out of Burlingame as well as what were the email writers saying in their emails. It should get very interesting, once the documents are made available for public review.

   What is really sad is the fact that it didn’t have to be this way or get to this point. If there are emails, all Galligan had to do was make them public. As the result of Galligan’s apparent obstinacy, he has forced the issue to be raised to a higher level.

   It is beyond me why Galligan continues to refer to those in opposition to the Behemoth Safeway as a vocal minority who managed to kill the project. Council Member Galligan, might I remind you that the Planning Commission Meeting had to be moved to the High School gymnasium. The Planning Commissioners were very articulate in their reasons for not granting the permit for the Behemoth structure. What about all of those BURLINGAME RESIDENTS, not union shills, who spoke in front of the Planning Commission and expressed their opposition to the Behemoth structure.

   This whole issue makes me wonder, what is in it for you?

   I need to let you all know that I was shopping in SAFEWAY two weeks ago and just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

   I was in the Vegi Section and all of a sudden the double back doors swung open and 6-7 men dressed in suit pants and white shirts emerged from the rear room. I just knew they were discussing the PLANS TO BUILD A NEWER AND BIGGER SAFEWAY!! So I became very vocal on the spot and belted out: WE DON’T WANT YOUR BIG STORE PLAN!!! WE JUST DON’T WANT IT!!!

   5-6 of the men just continued to walk past me but one of the men stayed. He was one of the Chief Financial Officers for Safeway and he asked me: WHAT DO YOU WANT? and I went on to explain the years of working on this project and going door to door to talk w/people in Burlingame and the plans that we have submitted in the past.

   I mentioned a California style – w/tile roof, a smaller building leaving the heritage trees on the property, having the open area look out on to Primrose and face Chicken Chicken, to make it smaller and more inviting to our downtown area. I asked him to consider the aesthetics as well as the functionality!!! WE DON’T NEED THE MEGA-BOX!!!

   anyway for what it is worth. . . I remember when I got wind of this in 1997 and wouldn’t let it go. . . finally, after I said we didn’t have the money to do this justice, the CFO replied that we have put up one darn good fight so far!!!
