Dedicated to Empowering and Informing the Burlingame Community

Yes that is the question. The Daily Journal says the following today:

"In Burlingame, City Councilman Joe Galligan said he is considering running for re-election in 2005. In the meantime, former candidate Russ Cohen said he may not run again. Open seats are for Galligan, Mayor Rosalie O'Mahony and Councilwoman Cathy Baylock. O'Mahony said she is running again."

I hope that two of them will run because it will make 2005 the election of the century!

Most interesting! Cathy is a voice of sanity and reason, so it is imperative we support her candidacy.

Now for Joe Galligan, this is a different kettle of fish! I look at Galligan as an onion, and I relish the idea of peeling back the various layers to show the residents how Galligan isn’t interested in the welfare of the residents of Burlingame nor the welfare of Burlingame. The amount of information available clearly points out; Galligan is more interested in BIG BUSINESS.

As a teaser, just watch how Galligan shafts the residents of Burlingame and prays at the alter of Safeway. Rather than having Safeway go through the normal process to have an initiative placed on the ballot, Galligan is going to support the “fast track” process and have the City Council allow Safeway to place the initiative on the ballot. This process will ROB the citizens of Burlingame the RIGHT to rebut Safeway’s “fast track” initiative language. This process will, also, allow Safeway to do an end run on the Planning Commission. This “fast track” process will, again, show Galligan’s contempt for the wisdom and knowledge of the Planning Commission. I ask you, if Safeway had a new and reasonable proposal, why shouldn’t Safeway be compelled to follow the normal initiative process? The danger of allowing Safeway this precedent setting process is overwhelming. Simple put, BIG BUSINESS will be allowed to buy their way around the citizens of Burlingame.

I am willing to bet, when the City Council “fast tracks” the Safeway initiative you will not see Galligan championing another initiative that would compel the City to fund crossing guards, any takers?
