It is a very serious allegation from Mr. Coffey in Fuchs Gossip column in today's Examiner. Is this sour grapes, nasty politics or dare I say … desperation? Mrs. O'Mahony is a well respected Burlingame politician and this piece of nastiness is very hard to believe. If this is "political consultant advice" to win an election, perhaps he is not being paid enough!

  1. He (Coffey) said he won’t sell out because he is independent. The bottom of the column points out that M&M got the endorsements of the biggest special interest groups in the county, the realtors and the unions.

Now that’s independence for you! I guess the unions and realtors are more important than the people in town. Someone has to pay Ed McGovern’s bills.

  2. Mayor Coffey can make whatever allegations he likes. I am curious to know why Mr. Fuchs’ article contains ONLY comments from Mike Coffey. In the interests of balanced journalism, Mr. Fuchs should have sought reaction from Vice Mayor O’Mahony. She’s not that difficult to contact, after all.

  3. Thanks for pointing out the previous article. One might contend that the two articles, ultimately, are balanced. But the article featuring Mayor Coffey’s “claims” about a “deal” still remains unbalanced. It would have been better journalism to go ask Ms. O’Mahoney if she, in fact, made this sort of “offer” to Mayor Coffey.
That is, after all, the point of the article…an allegation that she was somehow “selling” her endorsement.

The previous article was about O’Mahoney choosing to endorse someone other than the incumbents.

The article in question brings to the fore some backroom politics with only statements from one of the parties in the back room.

Further, if you read both articles, the one on O’Mahoney endorsing Terry Nagel contains no quotations from Rosalie. As a reader, I am unsure if Mr. Fuchs actually talked with her or was citing information from some press release. In the second article, there are quotation marks around various statements from Mayor Coffey, so a reader would understand that he had directly spoken with Mike.

  4. Boo hoo, so you didn’t get Rosalie’s endorsement , Mike Coffey. Why don’t you talk to the public about THE ISSUES! What a crybaby,

  5. Why doesn’t this little tick of a rag sheet grow up? You people are pathetic! Much as Al Qaeda and the Taliban do not represent the Muslim nation, neither do you represent the populus of Burlingame. Most people living in Burlingame are interested in one thing and that is their family. They aren’t interested in old decrepit buildings, tree hugging or Bayfront expansoion. I dare say that Bayfront expansion is unknown to the majority of citizens. Face it, you are terrorists, albeit urban terrorists, but terrorists nonetheless. Mike Coffey and Mary Janney are doers and have done more for Burlingame than your little circus act will ever hope to accomplish. Pack up your tents vagabonds and flee while you can. It’s not too late to move to Berkely or Cape Mendocino where you will undoubtedly be in nirvana with fellow tramps of your ilk.

  6. I am unaware of ddaggerz political views, but it’s really nice to know someone such as this “Concerned Resident” has such tolerance for differing opinions.

    Yikes.

  7. Such anger and hatred ddagerz. If you don’t want to read this “ragsheet”, don’t – after all this is America. Perhaps you should read Coffey’s website instead – or as we call it the “oops” website! Check it out – it doesn’t have a much substance… maybe you prefer that. It certainly doesn’t offend!

  8. Wow Ddaggerz,

With a name like that, YOU sound like the terrorist. Clearly you aren’t in touch with the “populus” of Burlingame and you don’t spell so good either–it’s “populace”.

Go out to any AYSO or BYBA game or any School meeting and say to some parent, “Hey, did you hear they’re thinking of allowing 200 or 300 new houses on the East side of 101?” You’ll get a real earful from a lot of real people. Real people who actually commute and worry about the negative impact on the schools, police, fire and city budget. These same parents are still wondering when there will be something for their kids to do in town, instead of just more kids looking for something to do.

Get real, the only place you’ll get terrorized is at the ballot box–just like last election.

    Signed, a real concerned resident
