It's one thing to have cheesy plastic signs and bollards all over town; it's another thing to not maintain them.  I particularly dislike these floppy signs that sit in the middle of the street and have a little red Yield sign on them that drivers constantly confuse with an actual stop sign.  They stop for no reason even with no pedestrian around and I watch to see if they get rear-ended.  Here's one on Howard Ave. that broke several months ago and just sits tilted and missing one side.  It's a sad little sight.  At least there is a nice gingko or two on the block to distract tree huggers.

I saw another near miss of a rear-end collision yesterday at this very spot. Someone just stopped in front of the floppy sign for no reason and a nice, new Porsche got thiiiiiss close.

If that’s the floppy sloppy sign on Howard then when a person parks too close to that sign to avoid the car, you have to go around the sign in the other lane. Dumb place to put a sign. Dumb place to park a car.

Pretty funny/sad. I took a cab to the airport yesterday. The driver was a long-time Burlingame area driver–like 25+ years. We went down Oak Grove and he stops full at that stupid floppy sign. No pedestrian anywhere in sight. They are terribly designed.

Sorry about the photo not showing up in the original post. TypePad still hasn’t fixed the intermittent photo issues.
The city did get around to replacing both beat-up floppy signs though! They’ll probably last a couple of months again.

Skyline at Hillside floppy finally disappeared. Useless, annoying and dangerous.
