I'm going to miss the little putt-putt right-hand drive USPS vehicles that have been around forever.  You may have noticed the new Dodge Ram vans driving around town–so new that they don't have plates yet–or is the Postal Service immune from the DMV?  The Rams are not getting rave reviews from the carriers.  They are designed more for Amazon or UPS package delivery than regular mail and are harder to enter and exit.  I'm sure the tailpipe emissions are better, but I'll miss that little putt-putt noise that told me my mail has arrived.

Searching around for the background of the old trucks, I discovered the larger ones are known as Grumman LLVs.  LLV stands for long life vehicle.  They have a GM Iron Duke 4 cylinder.  They replaced some of the prior Jeep DJ's around 1987, but I have also seen some of the really old Jeeps around B'game recently.  If you want one the GSA auction site is here.

For nostalgic reasons five years from now, here is one of the "old" trucks spotted on ECR recently

What is going on with the mail lately? I haven’t gotten mail for two days even when I know I should from the email they send daily?
My neighbor says it has been three days for her. Any insights?

And I kept receiving my mail last week despite the vacation hold!

This is in response to your recent inquiry regarding misdelivered mail. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you.
We currently don’t have a regular carrier on your route, we have had numerous carriers filling in, we have narrow it down to those that delivered on your route that day and have had a discussion with the carrier regarding delivery, that he needs to be more alert and double checking the mail as he delivers. We have created and alert card for the carriers so they are aware of misdelivery on your block.
We will monitor the delivery of your mail for a period of time. Please contact my office at the telephone number below, if you have any further concerns regarding this matter.
Thank you for the opportunity to address this matter with you.

Better stick with the RAMs and LLVs:
WASHINGTON — A Biden administration plan to create a “green” fleet of postal vehicles has churned out a mere 250 electric mail trucks in just over two years — after shelling out taxpayer funds meant to build thousands — leaving Republicans raging at the multibillion-dollar “boondoggle.”
The nearly $10 billion project — which called for more than 35,000 battery-powered US Postal Service (USPS) vehicles to be completed by September 2028 — was funded in part by $3 billion in funding from former President Joe Biden’s 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.
As of this month, the project is well behind schedule despite taxpayers forking over $1.7 billion — prompting Capitol Hill Republicans to try to rescind the remaining nearly $1.3 billion earmarked from the IRA.
Wisconsin-based Oshkosh, a defense contractor, agreed to be paid $2.6 billion by the USPS to provide the 35,000 vehicles — but the Washington Post reported late last year that just 93 battery-powered electric vehicles (BEVs) were ready by November 2024, even though 3,000 were expected by that date.
