SFO: The neighbor who will never move away…..

A regular Voice reader and correspondent, Peter Garrison, has been on the case this week about Korean Air KAL 214 spewing 88-91 decibels over B'game and Hillsborough at 2:55 am.  It must be pretty important Korean freight for their 747 to wake up 100's (1000's?) of people.  One can only imagine.

I'm hoping whichever candidate takes over Dave Pine's County Supervisor seat in November will Do Something Serious about the runway backblast and late night overflight noise.  Jackie Speier put some effort into the problem with Congressional legislation that needed more of a push as noted here.  I've seen Ann Schneider address the noise issue at the Airport Roundtable Ground Noise subcommittee a couple times.  She's a bit of a scatter shot but understands the problem and with some good technical and legislative guidance might make progress.  Either one of them would be more focused than the Supe who thinks either the Gazan Palestinians or the Israelis give a rat's ass about what she or San Mateo County, CA thinks.  Looking at you Noelia Corzo–dullest knife in the drawer. 

Here's the latest bit of aggravating noise (decibel) data on KAL 214.  If you played your car speakers at the level on ECR at 2:55 am you would be arrested.

    Now back to SFO noise. Looks like there were no surprises in the Supe election.

    What’s worse than the noise?
    A plane taking off for Japan lost a tire, which fell to the ground and damaged several vehicles in a parking lot at San Francisco International Airport on Thursday morning.
    No one was injured.
    Doug Yakel, a public information officer for the airport, wrote in an email that United Airlines Flight 35 took off for Osaka, Japan; online flight tracking site FlightAware said the plane departed about seven minutes early, at 10:53 a.m. The flight was cut short, Yakel said, when the plane, a Boeing 777-200 twin-jet, lost one of its landing gear tires during takeoff.

    I’ll tell you what could be worse:
    The Setting: My home is about 320 feet above sea level. The next time that airplane flies over my house and I can get out of bed fast enough to check the flight data it will tell me the aircraft’s altitude above my house.
    It better be at least 500 feet over my house or it’s breaking FAA regulations.
    The Scenario:
    So what could be worse is that big old airplane scooting across 280 and ending up in the drinking water reservoir for the San Francisco Bay Area.

    While noise can be disruptive, the potential health impacts from ultrafine particles near highways and airports are a significant concern. To help with noise, consider looking for a white noise video on YouTube, such as
    “10-Hours of White Noise, for Sleep, Blocking out Distracting Noises, Tinnitus, Relaxation.”
    Playing this video while you sleep, with the screen turned off, might offer some relief and help you find a bit more peace and relaxation at night.

    I read the article in the paper when it came out on Tuesday then I read the online one I linked here. They are not the same, in the paper one it reads:
    Dr. Diana Blum, a neurologist in San Mateo said this resolution was ultimately against the Hippocratic Oath and a “waste of time”.
    “I have patients who are struggling with access to care, authorization denials, medical necessity denials, drug shortages, a variety of things that you guys could have taken up on the agenda that would actually help my patients” Blum said. “Instead, we’re talking about collective justice in a foreign country? Do your jobs.”

    Where did this brutal take down of the dullest knife in the drawer (Noelia Corzo) disappear to? Why would the Daily Journal sanitize its own story? I don’t get it.

    From the Merc:
    Two United Airlines flights that were set to fly internationally out of San Francisco International Airport were cancelled Tuesday morning after the two planes touched wings, authorities said.
    Nobody on either flight was injured. The collision happened when the two flights were in an area near a gate.
    In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration said United Flight 863 heading to Sydney, Australia and United Flight 877 bound for Hong Kong were the two planes involved. Flight 863’s left wingtip collided with the right wingtip of Flight 877 about 12:35 a.m., the FAA said.
    The FAA is investigating the incident, which the agency said happened “in an area where where air traffic controllers do not communicate with flight crews.”

    When she retired Jackie Spier was speaking in front of SFO and hoped someone would do something about this noise.
    She’s back and……..
