Snowy Memories

After reading about the incredible snow levels in California, a regular Voice reader forwarded a photo of the famous 1962 Burlingame snowfall.  Here she is with her sister and an awesome snowman!  She notes that the houses shown are still there (another wonder) and challenges readers to identify the street.

In case you haven't been following the snow news, it's crazy out here.  I'm standing on the walkway to my Tahoe place yesterday–and I'm 5'8".  It's snowing now with another 2' expected.

    Well that one was pretty easy, Joe. There are only a few streets (like 2) in Burlingame that have more than the standard width planting strip- Burlingame Avenue and Easton. This looks to me like the 400 block of Burlingame Avenue, northside-:)

    I was six years old and living in Belmont. All the kids on the block came out and were making snowballs.
    We started throwing them at cars driving by. One woman had her window half way down and was hit by a snowball.
    A couple minutes later Belmont P.D. came by and told us not to throw snowballs at cars.
    (This was back in the day when the local fire house used to sell penny candy one day a week.) Yes, I know that I am old!

    Jennifer nailed it. Yes, this is the 400 block of Burlingame Ave near the intersection of Dwight.
    Second photo must be Mercy Burlingame (my alma mater). I well remember those nuns in these habits from my school days at St. Catherine’s!
    We just lived a few blocks away from here and just imagine my 7 year old self waking up and looking out my bedroom window to see snow on a Sunday morning!
