Dedicated to Empowering and Informing the Burlingame Community

If you are a registered voter in the 14th Congressional district (i.e. ours) you probably got a pamphlet from Kevin Mullin's State Assembly office in the last day or two.  It's as innocuous as one could imagine, titled "At Your Service – A Guide to Constituent Services" and lists a bunch of state agencies phone numbers and websites–sort of like Google would render if asked.  It has standard pre-paid postage paid by the State of CA – meaning us.

Mr. Mullin is running against our councilor Emily Beach and supe David Canepa for the congressional seat being vacated by Jackie Speier.  The primary is June 7th.  You are seeing lawn signs pop up and now a non-political mailer lands with Mullin's office return address.  A month ago, the Post noted the fundraising back then as

Canepa $427,956
Beach $276,887
Mullin $245,204 including self-funding of $65K
Mattammal $16,416
Watters $10,000

Name recognition is going to be key since you would probably need a very small ruler to measure the total differences in any 20 positions between the three Democrats.  So expect more bits of mail, local newspaper articles written from candidates' press releases and whatever else they can think of to nurse the campaign funds into June.  Here is today's example of how the game is played, neighbor.

If you’re gonna run with the big dogs, you gotta learn how to lift your leg.

  2. Kevin Mullin has already betrayed every single person who has decided to own or rent a single family residence in the State of California.
Please take the time to explain this to each and every family member or friend you have.
Remember the old phrase “Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice, shame on me.”

I just saw a little black pick-up truck on Howard with a giant Canepa sign mounted in the bed. It’s a long way to June ;-(

I understand Broadway Walgreens was robbed Friday at 10:30 am.
Any video shots? We are looking for a record accessible to the public. Any suggestions?

Looking forward to your analysis on this race Joe.

  7. Joe

Thanks, Winnie. I’ll give it a shot, but like I said in the post–the rush to the far left by the three Dems doesn’t leave a lot of space between them when they all get there. If it’s a name recognition contest, with a sliver of ballot position thrown in, then we will see even more things like Kevin Mullin’s email today:
    Capitol Connection
Friends, I am proud to share with you the latest edition of “Capitol Connection.” The legislative year is in full swing and I’m happy to share the latest news from Sacramento. I hope you enjoy this installment and I welcome your input on what you would like to hear about in the future.

Did anyone read the profile of Emily Beach in the Daily Post? She wants to go to congress and reach across the aisle. Gag. The I was a captain in the army 20 years ago is wearing thin.

  9. Spurinna

    Big government getting bigger.
And this right after the ides of March.
If she bosses us around about not using gas in our homes just think what she’ll do in Congress with her new pals.

  10. TransSwimmer

Beach based on her record and chum-chum relationship with the Asian developers in the area. Stay away from that phone Marxist.

  11. I can’t imagine this country lasting much longer with Democrats in control of ANYTHING. (government, private industry, or organizing bake sales)
Are any of the candidates listed above not Democrats, or even worse, traitorous RINOs?

  12. Just Wondering

Want some fireworks? Do a FOIA of all electronic records from Emily Beach, Michael Brownrigg, Burlingame Planning Dept and three Chinese Developers?

  13. Joe

I would guess you would need something more specific than “Chinese Developers” to make any PRA request yield something insightful.

  14. Mullin and Ting to hold a face-to-face meeting in Colma on April 8th from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. @ 1198 El Camino Real.
I think this will be a great opportunity to question them about SB9 and SB10 and ask them why they have betrayed their constituents.
    I’ll be there.

  15. resident

Ms. Beach is amazed at what she raised in this round, but how much was it? She doesn’t say. We’ll just have to wait. Hey, Wondering got any more details for us.

  16. For those who do not want to travel to Colma to question Mullin on April 8th, he will be appearing in Millbrae at Leonardo’s Deli on April 13th, from 8 to 9 a.m.
I think this will be a great opportunity to ask him about SB9 and SB10 and ask him why he has betrayed his constituents.
    I’ll be there.

  17. Better call Sal

Will Mullin or Beach be going to Mass tomorrow and expecting to receive Communion? Does anybody know if Canepa is a Christian or a “Christian”
