Every once in a while we venture out of B'game and San Mateo County to discuss the goings-on in Sacto.  This expedition to Sacramento is particularly rich

California Senate officials earlier this year hired two part-time employees to provide late-night and early-morning rides for members while they are in Sacramento, a 24-hour service that follows high-profile drunken driving arrests involving lawmakers in recent years.

The office of Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León declined to discuss the details or rationale of the program.  “We’re not going to provide comment, because it’s a security issue,” spokesman Anthony Reyes said.

One has to wonder if anyone is looking out for taxpayer security?  The next time I see Jerry Hill I will be sure to ask him.

This is atrocious. Some security issue.

Even the Mercury News finds this problematic–also quoting the Sac Bee
The Bee quotes an unnamed source who turned down the $2,532-per-month part-time driver’s job and a legislative chief of staff who said the purpose of the new workers is to curb legislators’ drunken driving.

Nice part-time work at $30K per year.

Joe, Joe, Joe, both you and I know you answered your own question and you put the golf ball on the tee for me to hit a 300 yarder straight down the fairway.
Bruce Dickinson must laugh, yes, chuckle at the reasons stated as to why legislators need to hire their own dedicated drivers. As someone who is no stranger to being in the public eye, let me tell you the real price breakdown: $15k is to drive and $15k is to keep the drivers’ lips zipped, not tell anyone about the drunken legislators, and most of all, to not take pictures of drunken stupors or even more scandalous, the hanky panky that may be going on in the back seat, ya know what I mean? Uber or Pink Mustache cars cannot be trusted, plain and simple.
I remember Joe, in a couple of insightful observations in prior posts, noticed the power of the dash cam. Well guess what? Dash cams can be turned around, to face the inside of the vehicle. Of course a drunken legislator will not notice this in his state of inebriety. There must have been a few things that happened where if the info or evidence of the drunken state of the legislator or his actions, had gotten into the wrong hands, would have been a career ender.
Of course, this will only serve to cover and encourage bad behavior, not only inside the capital but outside the legislators’ pants. Or turn the public official into a pubic official, ya know what I mean? I kid, I kid!
Just a little straight talk, from your neighbor of notoriety, Bruce Dickinson.

You have got to love his use of the word “confusion”:
“The Senate after-hours emergency services program was reinstated at the recommendation of security experts for the safety and protection of our Senators and hundreds of staffers, but, given the confusion caused by recent media reports, I have asked the Chief Sergeant to discontinue the infrequent practice of providing late-night/early morning transportation for Senators, effective immediately,” de León said in an emailed statement.
