The temperature is up and shorts and sandals are sprouting all over town. While we worry about water shortages we also need to take our minds off the drought once in awhile.
To that end, the SM County Times' weekly Eye section lists upcoming entertainment options for the week. This week it also did a partial round-up of the festivals for the summer and early Fall. I say partial because the main B'game events did not make the list. The Lions Club Cars in the Park will be July 25th and Burlingame on the Avenue will be August 15-16. Last year's event is described here. I have not seen the City Music in the Park line-up yet but here is last year's.
The County Fair will be June 6-12 and is described here. The Eye section also noted the return of jazz at the Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society in Half Moon Bay on Sunday afternoons. Noted local promoter Pete Douglas passed last July, but his daughters have picked up the torch. It was a painful reminder of how little live music we have in B'game. Wouldn't the Post Office make an amazing jazz club? Ticket windows and bistro tables in the lobby, a stage back in the processing area and a loading dock for the bands to bring in their gear and park. Dream on, Joe.
