I'm not sure much has changed since local handicapper Bruce Balshone posted this blog entry on Feb. 17th.  His take on the May 3rd mail ballot race was

Thus far the big winners continue to be Pine and Papan with Nagel and Holober having trouble gathering the same kind of traction. There are still a few big endorsements available but time is quickly running out as ballots begin arriving in mailboxes in less than two months.

We're down to one month now and I still wonder when we will see a candidates' debate.  If anyone knows of any upcoming events where the candidates will all appear, please add a comment here.  For the money being spent by the candidates and the County, we should get some prior discussion before our mailboxes start filling up with glossy brochures.

    You missed it yesterday…
    Contact:
    Barbara Arietta
    President – Pacifica Democrats
    415-246-0775
On Saturday morning, March 19th, the Pacifica Democrats and the Coastside Democrats from Half Moon Bay will co-sponsor a Spring Supervisorial Candidate’s Forum. All six candidates competing to be the next Supervisor from San Mateo County’s Supervisorial District One, will be on hand to present their individual platforms and to answer questions from the public. The candidates are: Richard Holober, Board President- San Mateo Community College District/Consumer Advocate;Terry Nagel, Mayor of Burlingame/Nonprofit Manager; Demetrios Nikas, Retired; Gina Papan, Deputy Attorney General/Millbrae Councilwoman; Dave Pine, San Mateo Union High School District Trustee/businessman and Michael Stogner, businessman.
The Forum will be held in the rear banquet room of the Sharp Park Golf Course Restaurant, Highway One and Sharp Park Road, in Pacifica.
Maybe if you contact the President, you might find a link to video if it was recorded.

Thanks…was in the air winging back from the U.K. Let’s hope there is one on the populated side of the County! Would be nice to have it sponsored by a non-partisan group too–or is that too much to ask in SMC? 🙂

Where is the League of Women Voters, or even the Burlingame Enlightened Women now that we need them??
So while in London did you get a gander at the Crown Jewels? Seems like a king’s ransom is being spent on this election!

I hear the Enlightened Women have three of the six presenting to them soon, but that is not a public event since the whole organization is by invitation only.
The FPPC 460’s will be available soon–the reporting period closed yesterday, so we will see who is spending real money and who is not.

Here’s a bit of the race coverage from the Daily Journal–not much of substance on the HSR topic–only Stogner appears to understand this is a total Boondoggle that should just be abandoned!

This is the standard nonsense Nagel spouts all the time
The biggest gift the supervisors have is helping to lead a constructive, impartial process
This is how she gets out of making hard votes. Process process process to death. She WASTES so much time on BS its amazing the city gets anything done

The first glossy brochure arrived yesterday from Holober. What a disappointment. Nothing but union endorsements and a photo and quote from Boxer about “fairness”. Not a word about budget deficits, County services, pension liabilities, or high-cost rail. Right into the recycling bin.
Here is an excerpt from today’s Dan Walters column in the SacBee:
Brown is being pressured by unions and other liberal interests not to deal on pension, budget and business-regulation reforms.
Schwarzenegger believed that his celebrity, centrist politics and independence would allow him to succeed where other governors had failed. Brown told voters that his age, experience and lack of ambition beyond the governorship would allow him to do what needed to be done in Sacramento.
Schwarzenegger learned otherwise, and Brown appears to have even less maneuvering room, given the debt he owes unions for his election financing and the hegemony they and other liberal groups wield in the Legislature.

Let’s hope we get better in San Mateo County.

Maybe, just maybe the voters will get this one right, and leave Nagel in the dust.

Why is Terry Nagel posting her signs in abandoned car washes, gas stations and empty weed filled lots up and down the peninsula? I can’t imagine she contacted the owners of these lots for permission.
    How tacky.

It appears we missed another debate due to poor publicity. The Mercury Times is reporting on a debate at the Alliance for Non-profits of San Mateo County. I’ve never heard of that organization. I’m ready for a debate hosted by some taxpayer organization! Read the report here:

If I see one more Nagel sign placed illegally I am going to scream. Have a little class, Terry. These signs are so telling of your inability to win this race. Also telling of your lack of experience and confidence. Yuck on all fronts.
