Dedicated to Empowering and Informing the Burlingame Community

Here is an interesting factoid from the February flyer from Books, Inc.:

Spend $100 at a local (business) and $68 of that stays in your local community. Spend the same $100 at a national chain, and your community only sees $43.

They don't list a source, but I don't dispute the numbers either.  They seem reasonable.

  1. Thanks for sharing that info! I was briefly(last year for about a year) in partnership with a business on Burlingame Ave. In that year 6 businesses went out of business just on my block alone.

I know where the figures come from that you show. There is a group called the 3 50 project at http://www.the350project.net who are out to “save the brick and mortars our nation is built on” and use a slogan of “eat down the street” for local restaurants. And I don’t think they mean Curry Up.
