Dedicated to Empowering and Informing the Burlingame Community

I love this restaurant and the restaurant critic from the Chronicle gives it two stars – its time for a zabaglione!

Sapore Italiano Ristorante
1447 Burlingame Ave. (near El Camino Real), Burlingame; (650) 348-3277. Warm, festive atmosphere and pleasant Italian food. The real knockout on the menu is the zabaglione dessert. Lunch Mon.-Sat., dinner Mon.-Sun. Rating: TWO STARS– $$– Noise Rating: THREE BELLS

I was told about this resteraunt about one year ago.
I was told that this resteraunt actually employeds Italian cooks.
It turned out to be true, and I believe, makes this food to be truly outstanding!
I was very sad to see the demise of Cafe la Scala, after the change in ownership a couple of years ago. That place was great!
It is hard to see that place is still in businnes.

I love Sapore. Not only is it owned and operated by Italians but the chefs are indeed all Italian. They are great to the community too, donating their time, food and money to many local causes. They catered the BIS teachers luncheon a couple of years ago at a fraction of the usual cost and they are always at Taste of The Town. They are also the hot lunch providers for St. Catherine School. They are just a bunch of great guys who really care about this town and are always greeting their customers like we are family. Their food is incredible and there are always amazining specials to try. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I didn’t like the experience I had at Sapore at all. We were cold, the food was just average and expensive and the service was slow. Herb is way better in my opinion and Roti is even better! And as for the demise of Cafe La Scala – it was awful – I’m not surprised it closed.

hey, speaking of restaurants, what happened to Mijana? My wife and I had a few meals there that weren’t bad and the place seemed to do good business on the weekends…

Cafe La Scala was by far the best IR in Burlingame for a long time..
    Remember that oil they made?
The new Russian owners tried to low ball us. CLA is horrible.
Paint pusher, try it again. I bet they will pay for your meal.
But please tell them to get rid of that stupid water fountain.

This use to be my favorite restaurant, until I went in for an early dinner one night and all of the glasses and dishes that were set were dirty! I checked out their rating from the health department and decided never to return.

yes, that garlic oil..so great…thanks HolyRoller. but it definately has taken a turn…one of my measurements is how a place (retail/restaurant/other) maintains the “back of the house”.. drive/park behind the place and check it out. that goes for food and shoes.

    It’s a mess.
