Thought the title of this San Mateo Times article was about a dismissed councilmember but it is about one of our candidates:

BURLINGAME City Council candidate Paul Prendiville is seeking to banish a lab.jpgt bull mix from his block, after it attacked his shih-tzu Bobo.
He said the lab.jpgt bull mix was visiting a neighbor across the street Thursday morning, when he ran to Bobo, who was leashed to Prendiville's front porch at 909 Azalea Ave. Bobo was bitten on his torso and his leg. His left eye was pulled from its socket, but was sewn back in. "(The dog) hasn't been picked up. I want the assurance that the dog won't come back," Prendiville said Monday. "We have a lot of children around here and a pre-school one block over."

… "The neighborhood is absolutely outraged about this and they too will be seeking assurances from the owner that the dog doesn't come back," he said. "I'm grateful that my dog is Catholic and he survived."

That is very sad. I don’t know what the answer is to this problem, but, I do like what they have done in one community in Virginia.

They publish a violent dog/animal list available on the internet. It lists whether the attack or bite was on a human or animal. I’ll try and find the link later today, after class…

A bill was just passed that will allow cities to pass their own breed specific ordinances. I think I read that in the Daily Journal.

I am appalled that Mr.Prendiville is using this situation to accomplish nothing more than public notoriety from a non-violent incident! He fails to mention that “his” dog runs loose continuously, frequently goes into the neighbors yards. “BoBo” has a long history of doing this and defecating on the porch and around the neighbors front yard, including going into the house and relieving himself on the couch! Maybe it is “BoBo” who should be deemed a vicious animal as he loves to bite including making Mr.Prendvilles own 13 year old daughter afraid to pick up her own dog & who has publicly stated that she no longer can hold “BoBo” anymore because he bites her! The Pit-Bull/Lab mix dog is very gentle, both plays with and is around kids all the time and has never once bitten these children. For Mr. Prendiville to say the community and the children of the community including a pre-school one block away are outraged is done only for his political gain I am sure. I have two children who I would have no problem being around this so-called vicious animal. The dog in question sustained injuries as well from Mr.Prendiville’s dog. I cannot believe that an innocent animal who’s breed has been scrutinized under a micro scope in the public eye be unjustly labeled a dangerous animal. If in fact it was Mr.Prendiville’s dog that started the whole incident or not. I could understand that an incident like this might provoke some ?’s but this should never have gotten blown out of proportion like this. This dog is loved, trained, well treated and well taken care of. It is not a back yard breed, but a non-vicious family pet. Do you know that for homeowners ins. policies that Chihuahuas are to be listed by the homeowner as a vicious breed? Mr.Prendiville should check with his homeowners agent to make sure his breed of dog is not listed as a dangerous breed. He might need to have “BoBo” carry a special permit as well. It is only because of recent events that Mr.Prendiville used this situation to his advantage and to get his name in the newspaper for his political gain!
    Shame on Him!!!
