Dedicated to Empowering and Informing the Burlingame Community

From the Daily Journal today about our newest candidate:

Burlingame Historical Society President Russ Cohen said Tuesday he will run for the Burlingame City Council's two-year seat vacated by Mike Coffey. Cohen, the first candidate to aim for the two-year post, came up about 170 votes shy of Coffey in the last election, and said it was natural for him to try for Coffey's seat.

Cohen, 46, is helping build a historical museum in the Burlingame Train Depot and forming a museum foundation. He said he mulled the decision to run. I tell you it wasn't an easy decision,? he said. I've always thought of myself as a multi-tasker.? As chair of the Traffic, Safety and Parking Commission, Cohen helped develop a bike and pedestrian pathway master plan. He is also the vice president of the Burlingame Lions Club.

An advertising executive, Cohen worked with the Downtown Burlingame Improvement District, which was attacked by Burlingame Mayor Joe Galligan in April for being too close to its advertising and Web services contractors. After a review of its financial records, the district and its contractors were cleared of any wrongdoing.

Galligan has said he is running again but has not filed candidacy papers. The deadline is Aug. 12.

However, Cohen said in a statement, Maintaining the status quo is not an option.?

Great news – the race is now beginning to get interesting!

Interesting too that Galligan has not yet filed candidacy papers because noone has filed as yet but only picked up the papers. We wait to see if the city official who has been feeding us the line that Galligan will not run is correct. We just thought it was wishful thinking on his part. Come on, mayor, you can make this election an extraordinarily interesting race!

Fred, in fairness, I have seen comments removed since the beginning of this Blog, and not just from one point of view, or another. In the beginning, I think some were removed practically before any pixels appeared! Maybe the editors can publish their “standards” so that we can all have a refresher. And by the way, thanks for continuing to blog, I do appreciate what you have to say, no matter the name used.

There have been postings removed that have been harmful to many including Joe Galligan, Mike Coffey, Gene Condon and others. They were removed because of a violation of our terms of use. Some postings made accusations that could not be substatiated or were libelous. They were removed immediately. In most cases, no one had the opportunity to view them.

The terms of use are available for viewing in the left hand column under “post a new entry.”

Shucks, I feel down wright pooped on. Nobody noticed the Editors edited my posting about razordead or whatever the stupid name is. If what Fred said is true thenen, by joe, razorhead is one of them, you know one of them thar polliticians. Too bad Fred doesn’t have two good ears, ’cause if he hads he would have heard Russ say the had the ticket the conductor did much care to punch it. Fred you ain’t givin the feller the grit about speaking the truth about the train and some of the possible problems it be havin.

Is anyone like me think that any (YES ANY) council is going to be better than the last council?

Bring it on to a great election and a great outcome. Wish all candidates luck and ‘onesty!

I have a question. I read in one of the throwaway papers (Daily Journal or something like that) that there is a rather ugly scenario involving Ann Keighran and Rosalie Mahoney. Something about Ms. Keighran bashing Ms. Mahoney’s family. I have been unable to Google any information about this. Do any of you people know anything about this? Thanks. Lucy

I have not heard anything of the sort.

There was an anonymous letter mailed throughout Burlingame attacking Ms. Keighran. A second letter was mailed out where the personal attacks on the original letter were criticized by Ms. Kieghran and Ms. O’Mahony jointly. No ugly scenerio between them.

Thank you for the answer. I think the Daily Journal owes somebody an apology. Or at least a clarification. Or maybe this is just an example of how big-city (read: “corrupt”, “dishonest”, “cutthroat”) little Burlingame’s politics have become!
