Dedicated to Empowering and Informing the Burlingame Community

Suddenly, Burlingame Avenue is overflowing with flowers. A group of dedicated citizens awoke this Sunday before dawn and assembled on Primrose Avenue to undertake the chore of replanting flowers into all 21 planters along Burlingame Avenue.

These citizens, part of a group called ,a href="http://www.betterburlingame.org" target="_blank">Citizens for a Better Burlingame along with students from Burlingame High School donned bright orange shirts emblazoned with the groups logo on the front and the words "Citizens Beautifying Burlingame" on the back. The task was done in less than 2 hours and all celebrated the accomplishment with a complimentary breakfast provided by Copenhagen bakery and cafe held at Chicken!Chicken!

Key to the program's success is The Downtown Burlingame Improvement District, who is providing funding for the watering of the plants, The Citizens for a Better Burlingame who organized the program, The Burlingame Beautification Commission for blessing the program and the numerous sponsors who "adopted" planters.

It is wonderful to see such citizen involvement helping the downtown business district look its best for visitors and residents alike. Burlingame will remain the jewel of the Peninsula as long as we continue to polish it.

What a great group of volunteers – from the young students up to our super sales lady, Monica, Ralf’s generosity with delicious edibles, Chicken Chicken opening up early and providing refreshments and, of course, our master gardener, Bobbi.
Amazingly the students were ready and waiting to work at 7:05 am on a Sunday morning and showed us once again that our young people are amazing.
Today was another example of the fantastic residents of Burlingame coming together to polish that diamond!

This event was lots of fun. Special thanks to our very own Master Gardener, Bobbi, who used incredible organizational skills to get the job done in record time. The weather also cooperated., and every planter is adopted already!D

This was truly a community effort. There were people from all walks of life and an extremely wide age range. Most impressive were the young volunteers, who showed up early, worked extremely hard, and without knowing it, showed the rest of us, what our future holds in Burlingame; things are looking up.

To all of the organizers of this wonder community effort, THANK YOU for allowing me to be part of another page in Burlingame’s history.

The goodwill and laughter were infectious. The young and old shared some great moments as well as shared some wonderful learning experiences. When all of the pictures are developed, it will be hard for anyone to dispute the positive effects this event had on everyone. It was so rewarding to have a stranger pass by and say something to the effect of thank you for your efforts and making Burlingame more Beautiful.

Rich, you are right. I don’t know how many people came up to me, once they realized I wasn’t doing ‘community service’ and thanked us for our efforts. And you are right, it was great to see the high schoolers getting involved. Now lets hope we get lots of rain this week to water those plants.

The rain has arrived and you are justly rewarded. I hope all of you special Burlingame citizens have a fairytale ending…I certainly appreciate all you do. cs
